This tour ventures off the beaten path, leaving behind paved roads and crowded tourist spots to explore the rugged mountain dirt roads of the Tongass National Forest’s backcountry, a local favorite. The journey is quite rural and offers scenic elevated views, weather permitting. As we drive through former logging sites, we discuss the importance of conserving our old-growth forests to ensure clean air, combat climate change, and protect one of the United States’ largest carbon sinks—the Tongass.
