Engaging, good value day - BTH does tours for up to 6 guests, and on our day excursion to Bruny Is, we were the only 3 in the comfortable and modern 7-seater. Ross, our friendly and knowledgeable guide and driver, collected us promptly at our Hobart hotel at 0830h. There's about an hour's drive and ferry ride to Bruny, plenty time for a detailed introduction to the day from Ross. The tour is paced with visits to speciality food and drink producers that have sprung up to support and encourage interest in the island, and make a buck. We visited a honey maker (tried the excellent ice cream), a cheese maker, a chocolate shop and a blender of whiskies and gin. The highlight was a visit to the southernmost vineyard in Australia, where we sampled some unique wines from their modest vineyard. This was also our lunch. stop, where we ate a pleasant meal chatting to Ross about local geography and history., of which he's very clued in.. We also visited the lookout across the narrow isthmus between the North and South of the island and Adventure Bay where Capts Cook and Bligh came ashore in the C18. Ross also found a rare white wallaby for us to watch and photograph. We declined a visit to an oyster farm, not being fans of these molluscs, and we were back at our hotel by 1630h. There's a fair charge for some of the produce, but overall, the tour was engaging and good value, particularly if you book directly with the operator..
