After lunch, travel to Musanze, the town known for Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys.
Trekking Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes NP and afternoon birding around the lodge
Volcanoes National Park - Guests will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience spending an hour with Mountain Gorillas, learning about their ecological and social lives. Trekking may last until 1 pm, followed by lunch at the lodge. After a short break, head to the park headquarters for birdwatching, where you can spot species like the Speckled Pigeon, Red-eyed Dove, Hadada Ibis, and many more. Return to the lodge by 6 pm for dinner and accommodation.
Tracking Golden Monkeys in Volcanoes National Park and transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Volcanoes National Park - After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on tracking Golden Monkeys. Travel to the foothills of Sabyinyo Volcano at Kabatwa Hill, named after this group of Golden Monkeys. Observe them swinging from bamboo trees and foraging in nearby farms. Spend an hour photographing and learning about these endemic primates from the guides. The trek concludes at noon, followed by lunch and a drive to Nyungwe NP. En route, stop at Nyirakiguhu Pond for an hour to observe various bird species. Arrive at the lodge near Nyungwe around 6 pm, with accommodation at Ken Barham Guest House.

Lake Kivu - Nyungwe NP is home to over 13 primate species, including Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). Begin the chimpanzee trek at 5 am with a packed breakfast, lasting until lunchtime. Spend an hour with the Chimpanzees, observing them closely in the treetops. Third full day of birdwatching and photography in Nyungwe National Park
Nyungwe Forest National Park - On the third day, seek out species like the Handsome Francolin and Eastern Mountain Greenbul. During migration, spot raptors like the European Honey-buzzard. After lunch, continue birdwatching, ending the day at the park office (Gisakura) to see species like the African Green-Pigeon. Try to spot the Rwenzori Nightjar near the lodge.
Half-day birding and transfer to Huye
Nyungwe Forest National Park - Enjoy morning birdwatching on the Waterfall trail, showcasing Nyungwe NP’s indigenous forest. Spot species like the Lemon Dove and Great Blue Turaco. After lunch, head to Kigali, stopping at Uwasenkoko Swamp to observe wetland species endemic to the Albertine Rift. Continue to Huye for accommodation at Gallileo Hotel.
