• Nyandungu Eco-Park - Enjoy a 3-hour birdwatching experience at Nyandungu Urban Wetland Eco-tourism Park, primarily focused on observing birds. Nyandungu is a newly restored wetland located within Kigali City, just 1.5 km from Kigali International Airport and a mere 25-minute drive from the city center. Over 100 bird species have been recorded here, including the White-collared Oliveback, Yellow-breasted Apalis, and Double-toothed Barbet.
• Umusambi Village - “Umusambi” is a Kinyarwanda word meaning Grey-crowned Crane. This village is a newly established sanctuary aimed at protecting the Grey-crowned Crane population from the illegal pet trade. Thanks to the site’s protection, more birds are visiting for food and reproduction. Various Kingfisher species, such as the Pied, Malachite, and African Pygmy, utilize the created water ponds as a food source. Visitors can spend 2 to 3 hours touring the sanctuary in the morning before enjoying a lunch break.
• Bugesera - The wetlands in Bugesera, particularly Gashora wetland, are habitats for papyrus and waterbird species. These areas are home to the Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Carruther’s Cisticola, and flocks of Glossy Ibis. Visitors can spend a morning or afternoon here to observe the diverse wetland birds of the East African region.
