Best day out in Killarney - This was such an amazing day out in this most beautiful part of our fabulous little country. Sold to us by our campsite hosts - shout out to Fionnán & Brid in Flemings White Bridge - we were collected by our bus driver from the campsite and brought to Ross Castle to meet up with our boatman David and his trusty companion Bailey - a maltese yorkie cross and the real captain of our ship! The boat trip took us on a magnificent passage through the three lakes of Killarney with David providing a wealth of knowledge and commentary to us along the way. Fantastic to be so close to the natural beauty of this National Park and the waterways. Parts of the lake were narrow and shallow and it was all part of the adventure when we all disembarked and walked the short distance to meet up with David & Bailey who had navigated the tricky bit alone. Back on the boat and to our lunch spot at Lord Brandon's Cottage before embarking on the jaunt home with Sean and Liam as they, with the help of Rosie & Silver, took our small group across the Gap of Dunloe through stunning scenery. We were blessed with a beautiful day and with great company and it will remain with us as a highlight of our holiday. In the past I've avoided these types of tours naively thinking they were really only for the non Irish tourists - how wrong was I. If you're looking for a fantastic day out look no further! I chose to walk some of the Gap with the jarvey to give the horse a bit of a break, but if you're feeling particularly energetic you can walk the full 7 and a half miles but you'll be missing out on the banter! Our bus driver collected us from Kate Kearney's Cottage which had provided welcome hospitality at the end of our tour and we were swiftly returned to our campsite in style. Thanks to all those who made this such a fantastic day out. ❤️

A little slice of heaven - The morning was pouring rain so we were a bit nervous about the 1.5 hour boat ride but by the time the tour started, the rain had stopped and there were rainbows everywhere. The water level was high from all of the recent rain so we only traversed 2 of the 3 lakes. Arrived at the landing for a cup of tea before climbing into the jaunting car. The horse's name was Bob. The scenery was spectacular. A warm fire and good food at Kate Kearney's cottage was a lovely end of the tour before the bus driver drove me back to the B&B where I was staying. A lovely day all around.

Memorable day! - Had a great time with this tour. The mountain views were surreal. The atmosphere at Lord Brandon's Cottage was incredible. And the boat ride through the lakes was enjoyable with very beautiful sights of the mountains.

It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This - Call it the luck of the Irish, but when Mike and Crazy Tom the Horse offered to take three of my girlfriends and me through the Gap of Dunloe in his jaunting cart, I knew we were in for a great experience. It was better than I could have imagined! Mike entertained us the entire way with stories, tales, insights and observations about the Gap and the area. Our conversation started when I asked how long he'd been doing this. "My first day...my first day on the job. 007 license to kill." I knew then we were in for a treat and I was right. Mike stopped at several prime spots along the way -- including one that offered a beautiful echo -- to allow us to take photos and took several for us, as well as getting in on a few himself. Mike's frequent "Come on, Toooom" and "Come up, come ouuuut" sprinkled throughout our conversation only added to the absolute "Irishness" of the journey. We learned a little about Tom (he likes Guinness, Mike says), who is 7 and will pull the cart until he is about 18, at which time he'll "retire" to giving children rides in a park in a nearby town. Mike also pointed out trail hikes accessible along the Gap path, including one leading to MacGillyCuddy's Reeks and Ireland's tallest mountain. Next time...next time! I'm not sure how the experience could have been any better. Thank you, Mike, for a memorable, entertaining journey through the Gap.

Fun, except for the poor treatment of the horse. - The bus and boat were great - but don’t take the jaunting car. The jockeys whipped and cursed at the horse. The entire thing was uncomfortable. After speaking with locals I learned the folks running the jaunting cars are notoriously shady. If you’re going to take the tour, just walk the gap. It honestly isn’t that bad at all.
