Tortoise Cave - The beauty of nature. A wonder from Zanzibar. Fun and exciting. It's fun seeing the tortoise swimming and dancing round you while feeding them with the sea weeds. Clean water is a beautiful sight. The chirping of the birds cohabiting the cave with the tortoises add some extra layers of beautiful sounds.

An unforgettable experience at Salaam Cave in Zanzibar – perfect for swimming-loving children! - Our visit to Salaam Cave in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, was an absolute highlight of our trip. This natural cave offers the rare opportunity to swim with sea turtles in their protected environment – an experience that is especially suitable for children who are good at swimming and are not afraid of animals. What makes Salaam Cave special? ✅ Natural environment The cave is located in Kizimkazi Dimbani and impresses with its crystal clear waters where sea turtles live in a protected environment. The ambience is unique and feels like a secret lagoon. ✅ Swimming with sea turtles Here you have the opportunity to swim directly with the turtles, observe them and even feed them. The animals are used to humans and move relaxed through the water – a great experience for all nature lovers! ✅ Education & conservation Salaam Cave is not only a fascinating excursion destination, but also a sanctuary for sea turtles. The guides explain a lot about their way of life, dangers from pollution and how to help protect these impressive animals. ✅ Friendly care & good organization The staff is very welcoming and makes sure all guests feel comfortable. The tour is well organized, and care is taken to ensure that the handling of the turtles remains respectful. Notes for visitors: Swimming skills required: Since the water in the cave is deep, visitors should be able to swim safely. For children it is especially important that they feel comfortable in open water. Bring your own snorkeling equipment: To enjoy the experience to the full, it may be worth having your own mask and snorkel. Respectful handling of animals: The turtles should not be harassed or held – they move towards the visitors on their own, and rather they are still to be turned away cautiously. Conclusion: Visiting Salaam Cave is a unique experience that perfectly combines adventure, education and conservation. Especially for families with swimming-loving children, it is a wonderful way to experience the fascinating world of sea turtles up close. An absolute must for anyone visiting Zanzibar!

They are sublime - Great experience. Turtles are just sublime and nice. You can do the excursion 30 minutes or 1 hour. We chose the 30 minutes option and it was more than enough. You can pay with credit card and dollars. We paid 25$ for 2 or 12€ per person approximately. Understand, the pass to go down to the cave, as well as a small bin with salad to feed the turtles. If you are respectful think that the dress code is different from that of Europe. For the respect of the inhabitants, it is better to wear stockings that cover the legs down to below the knees for men and women + shoulders covered for us ladies. We went there on our own (we were at Lalaland Lodge, which is about 5 km walk away).

This is a MUST do! - Magical experience! We followed the advice of a reviewer's recommendation to book early. We arrived at 08h00 and had the full hour and 30 minutes to ourselves before more people arrived. No photo can justify the serenity of this place. The premises itself is well kept, the staff really cares about nature and keeping it to the natural state. I can highly recommend the Maalum Ritual after the cave slot at the Spa. Such a spoil and highlight to our trip!

A good experience - A unique and enjoyable experience. A great opportunity to get up close to some beautiful turtles. Your given seaweed to feed to them as part of entrance price, showers and toilets are available for use. Beware steps down to the cave are steep and narrow worth considering if you have mobility issues. The decking area in the cave can get crowed and busy but isn’t a huge issue. Numbers management and getting up and down the steps is slightly chaotic again not a significant issue.

Do not take algae into the water - Small advice do not take with you the seaweed in the water to feed the Turtles, risk getting bitten, better to do it from above. Just turn them over when she comes to you so she doesn't let them get too close and risk getting bitten.
