Setting Sail on the Honey Milk

The day began with a gentle breeze and the promise of adventure as I boarded the Honey Milk, a beautifully crafted boat that would be our vessel for the day. The crew welcomed us with warm smiles and a refreshing drink, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable experience. As a marine biologist, I was particularly excited to explore the waters around Nusa Penida and Lembongan, known for their vibrant marine life and stunning coral gardens.

Our captain, Putu, was a seasoned navigator, and his confidence was reassuring as we set off. The swell was a bit bumpy, but the boat handled it with grace, and I felt safe in Putu’s capable hands. His decision to avoid Manta Bay due to the conditions was a testament to his commitment to our safety, and I appreciated his expertise. Instead, we headed to an alternate location that promised equally mesmerizing underwater wonders.

Snorkeling Adventures and Marine Marvels

Once we reached our snorkeling spot, the real magic began. Our deckhand, Made, was instrumental in ensuring we were all geared up and ready to dive into the crystal-clear waters. The equipment was top-notch, and Made’s attention to detail made the process seamless. As I slipped beneath the surface, I was immediately enveloped by the serene beauty of the underwater world.

Our guides, Deryck and Morgan, were exceptional. They navigated our group of 14 with ease, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and included. Morgan’s patience with my fellow snorkelers, especially those who were less experienced, was commendable. He even lent his own spare mask to a young boy whose equipment wasn’t fitting properly, ensuring he could enjoy the experience without worry.

The underwater landscape was a kaleidoscope of colors, with turtles gliding gracefully through the water, starfish dotting the ocean floor, and schools of tropical fish darting around us. Deryck’s knowledge of the marine life was impressive, and he pointed out various species, enriching our experience with his insights. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place.

A Scenic Lunch and Lasting Memories

After our snorkeling adventure, we were treated to a scenic lunch at Amarta, a location that offered breathtaking views and delicious cuisine. The cliffside setting was perfect for capturing those “instagram-able” moments, and our guides ensured we had plenty of opportunities to do so. The camaraderie among our group was palpable, and the laughter and music added to the joyous atmosphere.

Reflecting on the day, I realized that it was the crew’s dedication and passion that truly made the experience special. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable time, and their efforts did not go unnoticed. As we sailed back to the port, I felt a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to explore such a beautiful part of the world and to share it with a group of like-minded adventurers.
