R 62 in the Klein Karoo - Route 62 in South Africa is renowned as the longest wine route globally. Traveling along the R62 Wine Route is a wonderful opportunity to explore some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes and enjoy exquisite wines. The R62 Wine Route traverses the Western Cape and is celebrated for its quaint towns, vineyards, and breathtaking scenery. From Worcester, the route passes through Robertson, Montagu, Barrydale, and Oudtshoorn, among others. Stops are made for wine tasting along the way, with a lunch break in one of these charming towns.
Outeniqua Pass - From Oudtshoorn, the journey continues towards George, passing through the Outeniqua Pass. The Outeniqua Pass stretches 13km and serves as both a vital transportation link and a scenic part of the Garden Route, offering travelers a chance to admire the natural beauty of South Africa’s Western Cape region.
Wilderness - After the Outeniqua Pass, the route passes George and reaches Wilderness, a short distance away. A brief tour of Wilderness is conducted. Despite being a small village, Wilderness offers breathtaking scenery with its forests, lakes, mountains, and coastline, creating an endless paradise feel. It is renowned for its expansive beaches and beautiful lagoon system. Situated between George and Sedgefield, Wilderness exudes “that holiday feeling” year-round.
Knysna - From Wilderness, the journey continues a short distance to Knysna, where the night is spent. Knysna is a place of natural beauty and a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those seeking a peaceful coastal experience in South Africa.
After breakfast, visit the Knysna Heads and various other attractions in the area.
Knysna Heads - Knysna is a place of natural beauty and a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those seeking a tranquil coastal experience in South Africa. The Knysna Heads are not only a stunning natural landmark but also a place of great scenic beauty and ecological importance. The cliffs provide a breathtaking backdrop for the surrounding area, and they are a popular destination for tourists, photographers, and nature enthusiasts. The views from the top of The Heads offer a fantastic perspective of the lagoon, the Indian Ocean, and the lush forests that encompass the region.
Robberg Nature Reserve - Robberg Nature Reserve, certainly one of the best in South Africa, is known for its stunning coastal landscapes, diverse wildlife, and a variety of outdoor activities. In Robberg Nature Reserve we do hiking.
Plettenberg Bay - From Robberg Nature Reserve we go to Plettenberg Bay. Here we visit one of the popular beaches. Plettenberg Bay is a fantastic destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking for a relaxing coastal getaway. Its stunning landscapes and outdoor activities make it a must-visit location for anyone exploring the Garden Route in South Africa.
From Plettenberg Bay we return to Knysna for a relaxed afternoon and for the night.
Day 3 is spent at Addo Elephant National Park and Bloukrans
After breakfast we go to the Garden of Eden for hiking.
The Waterfront Knysna Quays - From Garden of Eden we go to Waterfront Quays Knysna. The quays feature a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Visitors can enjoy waterfront views, a range of culinary options, and the chance to explore the charming streets and alleys of this coastal town.
Knysna Boat Charters - Lagoon Boat Cruises, Oyster Tours, Sunset Cruises, Kayak & SUP Hire - From the Knysna Quays we embark on an afternoon boat cruise and watch the beautiful sunset.
We spend our final night in Knysna
We depart from Knysna after breakfast and head off to Alguhas passing through Swellendam
Swellendam - We stop over for a brief tour of Swellendam. Swellendam is a picturesque town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, known for its historic charm, natural beauty, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Hermanus - From Agulhas we proceed to Hermanus where we spend the night. Hermanus is a popular destination for tourists, especially during the whale-watching season. Its natural beauty, coastal charm, and cultural attractions make it a great place to explore along the Western Cape’s Garden Route.
After breakfast we do a tour of Hermanus, then proceed to Benguela Cove Wine Estate
Hermanus - Hermanus is a seaside town located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is known for its stunning coastal scenery, whale watching, and outdoor activities. Here are some key features and attractions of Hermanus:
a) Whale watching
b) Cliff Path: The Cliff Path is a beautiful coastal walk that stretches along the cliffs of Hermanus, offering panoramic views of the ocean and opportunities for whale watching. It’s a popular spot for walking, jogging, and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
c) Adventure Activities: For the more adventurous, Hermanus offers activities like shark cage diving, paragliding, and quad biking.
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - At Benguela Cove Wine Estate we do wine tasting of 5 different wines. This is a top wine estate considered one of the top 100 wine producers in the world.
Betty’s Bay - From Benguela Wine Estate we proceed to Betty’s Bay to see the endangered African Penguins. This is quite a spactacle as we get to see Penguins from very close.
From Betty’s Bay we travel on the scenic Whale Coast Route arriving back in Cape Town at late afternoon around 6pm.
