Athirappilly Waterfalls, often referred to as the Niagara of Kerala, is the largest and most renowned waterfall in the state. Situated 85 kilometers from Kochi city, Athirappilly is celebrated for its rich biodiversity, being nestled within a forest. The Sholayar Range Forest, where the waterfall is located, is well-known for the “Great Pied Hornbill” or “Giant Hornbill.” Occasionally, visitors may also spot the “Malabar Giant Squirrel” in the Athirappilly forest range.
Best Time to Visit: The ideal period to visit is from June to January, when the waterfall is at its most spectacular.
When to Avoid: From late February to the end of May, the summer season results in significantly reduced water flow at Athirappilly Falls. During this time, the other two falls may be completely dry.
