• Chinese Fishing Nets - Known locally as Cheena vala, these stationary lift nets are a unique feature in India. They are fixed land installations used for fishing. While commonly referred to as “Chinese fishing nets” in India, the formal term is “shore operated lift nets.” These impressive mechanical structures extend horizontal nets over 20 meters wide. Each installation stands at least 10 meters tall, featuring a cantilever with a net suspended over the sea and large stones as counterweights. A team of up to six fishermen operates each setup.
