The Cultural Capital of Europe and the Oldest City in Europe
Koprivshtitsa - Guests will be picked up from their hotel or accommodation in Sofia at 9:00 AM. Once packed, the tour will commence, heading towards one of Bulgaria’s most scenic moto roads. After a couple of hours, the first stop will be reached, offering a guided tour of an architectural reserve that transports visitors back to the 19th century. Here, participants will learn about the Bulgarian revival period and the struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire.
Thracian Temple Complex Starosel - The journey continues to Starosel, a region linked to the enigmatic Thracian civilization, which thrived from the Bronze Age to the 4th century AD. The area is home to fascinating religious and burial complexes left by the Thracians. One of the largest, the Starosel complex, will be visited with a guided tour.
Plovdiv Old Town - After a few more hours of travel, the final destination for the day, Plovdiv, will be reached. The afternoon will be spent exploring this ancient city, one of Europe’s oldest, rich with heritage from various historical periods. Visits will include the renowned Roman theatre and stadium, the oldest mosque in the Balkans, and 19th-century Bulgarian houses. Overnight accommodations are planned in the Cultural Capital of Europe for 2019. The evening can be enjoyed in “The Trap,” an area filled with charming craft restaurants and bars.

Rhodope Mountain
Assenova Krepost (Asen’s Fortress) - After breakfast, the journey south into the Rhodope Mountain begins. The first stop is a medieval fortress perched atop a cliff, offering breathtaking views after a short climb.
Bachkovo Monastery - A visit to a well-preserved 12th-century church follows. The next stop is the second-largest monastery in Bulgaria, established in the 11th century by two Georgian brothers.
Trigrad - Later, the tour passes through the famous Trigrad Gorge. After exploring the intriguing and legendary Devil’s Throat cave, guests will check into a hotel in Trigrad to enjoy traditional Bulgarian hospitality and cuisine.

The Wine Region of Bulgaria
Melnik - This day offers the pleasure of traveling along peaceful secondary roads, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The route passes by water reservoirs, rivers, and mountain passes, leading to a region known as the Bulgarian Tuscany, famed for its wine. A visit to Villa Melnik, a renowned Bulgarian winery, is planned, including a cellar tour and wine tasting. The winery shop offers provisions for the remainder of the trip. Overnight accommodations are in Melnik.
Riding time for the day is approximately 3 hours / ~170 km.
Meet the Locals and Experience Bulgarian Traditions and Culture
Bansko - After breakfast, a guided tour of Bulgaria’s smallest town is scheduled. Visitors will explore a wealthy 18th-century Bulgarian house, once owned by a family involved in the wine trade, exporting to Venice and importing glass to the Ottoman Empire. The tour includes a walk around Melnik’s medieval remains and a ride to a nearby monastery, a site of beauty for around 1000 years.
The riding then begins, passing through another scenic river gorge, Kresna, and heading towards the Bansko area, Bulgaria’s largest ski resort. The old historical part will be visited, and for those with energy, a ride to the hut below Vihren, the highest peak, is possible. From there, a pleasant walk to see three natural lakes can be enjoyed.
Gorno Draglishte - In the evening, guests will check into a local house in a nearby village, where a typical Bulgarian homemade dinner will be served, along with an introduction to Bulgarian songs, dances, and spirits.

Returning to Sofia
Rila Monastery - On the final day, after breakfast, the journey back to Sofia begins. The route passes by Rila, the highest mountain on the Balkan Peninsula, with a stop at the UNESCO-listed Rila Monastery, the largest and most significant in Bulgaria. After a guided tour, lunch will be enjoyed at a nearby restaurant, featuring fresh trout, a regional specialty. An hour and a half ride will conclude the tour back in Sofia.
