- Kotor Serpentine - The journey begins in Kotor, ascending the historic road from the era of the Kingdom of Montenegro. This adventurous route, known as the ‘serpentine road,’ features 25 switchbacks and offers breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor. A notable section of the road from Kotor to Trojica includes an M-shaped moat. Legend has it that young engineer Josip Slade-Šilović, tasked with designing a modern road from Kotor to Cetinje after the Berlin Congress in 1878, secretly expressed his love for Montenegrin princess Milena through this design. The Montenegrin writer Jovan J. Martinović shared a local joke about this M, humorously suggesting that if the engineer had fallen for Princess Olga instead, the journey might have been endless.
- Njegusi - After an hour’s drive, the tour arrives in Njeguši, a village nestled between Kotor and Lovćen National Park, where authentic Montenegrin culture and cuisine await. Visitors can sample and purchase local delicacies such as prosciutto, cheese, and wine. Historically, Njeguši was a significant center of power in old Montenegro, governed by a bishop, prince-bishop, and serdar, with leadership roles passed down through family lines. The most renowned figure from Njeguši is Petar II Petrović Njegoš, who served as the Montenegrin bishop from 1830 to 1851. His birthplace, the only two-story house in Njeguši, now serves as a museum, showcasing the lifestyle of a 19th-century upper-class Montenegrin family.
- Lovcen National Park - Following the visit to Njeguši and a half-hour drive, the tour proceeds to the Mausoleum of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš. Beyond his role as Prince-Bishop of Montenegro, Njegoš was a philosopher, poet, and cherished political and cultural leader. Visitors will ascend 441 steps to reach the mausoleum’s most striking feature, a six-sided chapel. The statue of Njegoš, crafted by renowned sculptor Ivan Meštrović, is an artistic marvel made from a single granite block originally weighing 50 tons. Completed in 1974, the statue stands 4 meters tall and weighs 29 tons. The ceiling is adorned with 200,000 gold pieces, forming a magnificent gold mosaic weighing 18 kg. Exiting the mausoleum, visitors are treated to a panoramic view of 70% of Montenegro’s mountainous and rocky terrain.
- Kotor - The tour continues with a scenic view of Boka Kotorka, followed by a twenty-minute drive to the Kotor cable car. After exploring the historical and traditional aspects of the region, visitors enter a realm of pristine nature, unique climate, and the enchanting ambiance of the Bay of Boktor. Here, they can enjoy the view, partake in various activities, or simply relax with a coffee at the summit.
The grand finale is a delightful cable car ride back, offering a spectacular view. In just 11 minutes, the cable car ascends from 65m to 1350m above sea level, providing stunning vistas of Kotor Bay and the towns of Kotor, Tivat, Perast, and Herceg Novi.
