Following this, the journey continues to Koutammakou, home to the Batammariba people in northern Togo. Originally from Burkina Faso, the Batammariba fled tribal conflicts in the 11th century, eventually settling in northern Togo along the Attakora mountain range.
In this region, you can marvel at their unique traditional architecture, including the renowned Tata houses, designed for both defense and communal living. As you explore Koutammakou, you’ll gain insight into the Batammariba’s rich cultural heritage, ancient traditions, and profound connection to the land. Their lifestyle, shaped by centuries of history, remains vibrant in this extraordinary area.
