- Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau - The Auschwitz Museum & Memorial tour highlights one of the most tragic events in human history. After the Second World War, Auschwitz became a symbol of genocide, terror, and the Holocaust. In 1940, Nazi Germany established a concentration camp in the suburbs of the city, where not only Polish people suffered but also individuals from many other nations. The most distressing aspect of this place is that entire families, including parents and their children, were brought to Auschwitz and killed. At the war’s end, some gas chambers, barracks, and documents were destroyed by the retreating Nazis, but two sections of the camp were preserved.
A visit to this Museum is crucial for shaping attitudes, promoting education in tolerance, and combating anti-Semitism, xenophobia, prejudice, and stereotypes.
Visitors are guided in groups, and the tour lasts about 3 to 3.5 hours. As there is a significant amount of walking involved, comfortable shoes are recommended.
