Angkor Wat - Begin the day early at 4:30 am to witness the stunning sunrise at Angkor Wat. The sun rises behind the temple, creating a silhouette of its uniquely shaped towers against a vibrant sky. This is an ideal time to explore Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s ancient temple city, renowned as one of the wonders of the oriental world. The site is a masterpiece of decorative detail and architectural style, with its awe-inspiring ruins standing as a testament to the remarkable achievements of Southeast Asia’s greatest civilization. It represents the universe according to Hindu mythology, featuring Mount Meru surrounded by continents and oceans. The extraordinary bas-reliefs depict Khmer epics and myths. Angkor Wat’s five iconic towers rise into the sky, forming a geometric arrangement of galleries adorned with celestial Apsara dancers, portals, chambers, and courtyards.
Enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant in front of Angkor Wat or return to the hotel for breakfast and a brief rest.
Ta Prohm - Continue the tour with a visit to Ta Prohm, a quiet, sprawling monastic complex partially reclaimed by jungle overgrowth. It offers some of the best “tree-in-temple” photo opportunities within the Angkor Complex.
Savor lunch at a local restaurant near the Angkor area.
Bayon Temple - In the afternoon, visit Bayon Temple (Angkor Thom), known for its giant stone faces, which have become iconic images of classic Khmer art and architecture. There are 37 standing towers, most featuring four carved faces oriented toward the cardinal directions.
Baphuon Temple - Nearby is Baphuon Temple, a Hindu temple built before Angkor Wat in the 11th century. The large Reclining Buddha behind it was constructed in the 16th century. Continue to the Royal Enclosure Wall.
Phimeanakas - Phimeanakas is a pyramid-shaped Hindu temple built in the 10th century, located in the center of the old Royal Palace of Angkor Thom. It can be visited along with the ancient Royal Enclosure Wall.
Terrace of the Elephants - The Terrace of the Elephants is a platform once used by kings to view victorious returning armies. It features numerous elephant carvings on the platform’s wall. The impressive, two-and-a-half-meter tall, 300-meter long terrace wall is adorned with carved elephants and garudas, spanning the heart of Angkor Thom.
Terrace of the Leper King - This double terrace wall is deeply carved with nagas, demons, and other mythological beings. It is named after the statue of the ‘Leper King’ that sits atop.
Preah Palilay - A picturesque sandstone and laterite tower set in a cool, shaded forest, with the eastern gopura displaying particularly nice Buddhist-themed carvings.
Optional: Watch the sunset on Bakheng Mountain to conclude Day 1 of the tour.
Beng Mealea & Banteay Srei Tour (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
Beng Mealea - In the morning, head to Beng Mealea, a Hindu temple located about 60 kilometers from Siem Reap town. The jungle covers over a 1-square-kilometer area of the temple, which was built around the end of the 11th century before Angkor Wat. With minimal restoration, visitors can explore the mysterious archaeological sites with a sense of adventure. While there may not be grand sculptures, it offers a wonderful opportunity to immerse oneself in beautiful archaeological sites.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near Beng Mealea Temple.
Banteay Srei - In the afternoon, visit Banteay Srei, a temple known as the ‘citadel of women,’ a modern name likely referring to the delicate beauty of its carvings. Banteay Srei showcases some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art.
Optional: Experience the sunset at Pre Rub Temple, an architecturally and artistically superior temple-mountain. It features beautifully carved false doors on the upper level and offers an excellent view of the surrounding countryside.
