Exploring the Town
Siem Reap - Artisan Angkor is situated in the heart of the town and is essential for exploring local products. Artisans Angkor is a Cambodian social enterprise that creates job opportunities for young people in rural areas while reviving traditional Khmer craftsmanship. Established in 1992, they showcase Khmer craftsmanship through silk fabrics and garments, stone and wood carving, lacquerware, ceramics, silver-plated copperware, silk painting, and jewelry.
Wat Bo Temple - Wat Bo Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and features several well-preserved wall paintings from the 19th century. Although it is a Buddhist temple, some of the wall paintings depict the famous ancient love story of Rama and Shita, the strongest man and the most beautiful woman of all time. Even today, the royal families of Southeast Asian countries claim to be descendants of Rama. These wall paintings, depicting a Hindu story, are remarkable in a Buddhist temple. Wat Bo Temple also houses a large collection of Buddha statues located behind the main Buddha.
Siem Reap - Preah Ang Chak- Preah Chorm is a sacred place for locals. The royal residence is nearby, and the modern bronze statues detail Khmer commanders from the Khmer empire.
Sunrise + Small Circuit
Angkor Wat - Guests will be picked up between 4:30 and 5:00 am, depending on hotel location, for sunrise outside Angkor Wat. Enter the magnificent temple in darkness from the less-visited eastern side, and walk along the ancient, isolated passageways with the longest stretch of bas-relief carvings.
Spend nearly 3 hours learning about Angkor’s history and the rich culture of Asia. An expert local guide will explain the myriad of stories behind the bas-relief carvings, providing insight into life during the height of the Khmer empire.
Take a short break for breakfast before heading to the ancient capital city of the Khmer empire. Stop at the south gate of Angkor Thom city to capture the enormous statue adorned on the causeway with 54 gods and 54 asuras, representing the 54 provinces during the Angkor period. Angkor Thom was built by the powerful King Jayavarman VII (1181-1218), and the state temple is Bayon Temple, the last temple of the king. Symbols of Hinduism and Buddhism are decorated there to merge the two main religions, even though the king was Buddhist, he did not discriminate against other religions.
Continue the journey to the jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm – one of the most atmospheric temples in Angkor. This temple was also built by King Jayavarman VII (1186) and dedicated to his mother, Sri Jayarajacudamani, while Preah Khan Temple was dedicated to his father, Dharanindravarman II. It is a Buddhist and Hindu temple, famously featured in the film “Tomb Raider” starring Angelina Jolie in 2000-2001.
Besides the temple, it also served as the University of Queen Indradevi.
At the end of the tour, stop at the Srah Srang reservoir to enjoy the breeze and take some pictures by the pond. Lunch at a local restaurant is highly recommended for its delicious offerings.
