Bayon Temple - Bayon Temple is famous for its impressive stone faces. It’s worth spending an hour here. Nearby is Baphoun Temple, which is also worth a quick visit.
Terrace of the Leper King - Continuing the exploration, the next stops are the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, both located within the Angkor Thom area.
Angkor Wat - After a lunch break at a nearby restaurant, the tour proceeds to the main attraction, Angkor Wat. This expansive complex invites visitors to climb to the top, making it a longer stop.
Phnom Bakheng - The final destination is Phnom Bakheng, where visitors often join a large crowd at the summit of this ancient temple. Arriving early is advisable due to the limited number of visitors allowed at the top.
Kulen Waterfall and the Giant Buddha
Central Market - The day begins at 8:30 am, departing Siem Reap for the long drive to Kulen Mountain, approximately 45 km away. Bringing a book or entertainment is recommended.
1000 Lingas - En route to Kulen, a stop is made at the river of 1000 lingas. If the river’s flow is gentle, numerous lingas carved into the stone riverbed can be seen.
Phnom Kulen National Park - Upon arrival at Phnom Kulen (meaning mountain of lychees), the tour continues to two waterfalls where guests can swim. The small fish that may nibble on dead skin are similar to those in town’s fish baths, and there is no charge for this experience at the waterfall.
Phnom Kulen National Park - From the waterfall, a short trek leads to the Preah Ang Thom pagoda, where the giant reclining Buddha can be viewed. Visitors may also receive a blessing of holy water.
Phnom Kulen National Park - After lunch on the mountain, the journey continues downwards towards Banteay Srei, with a stop to observe Sugar Palm production or visit the landmine museum.
Banteay Srei - Known by several names such as “Lady Temple,” “Tiny Temple,” and “Pink Temple,” Banteay Srei is unique. Originally named Tribhuvanamahesvara, “Banteay Srei” is a modern name meaning “citadel of the women.”
Banteay Samre - The tour then visits Banteay Samre and Pre Rup temples before returning to the hotel around 6:30 pm.
Angkor Sunrise and Grand Tour
Angkor Wat - The day starts early, leaving town by 5:00 am to reach Angkor Wat and find a perfect spot for photos, hoping to capture a stunning and spiritual sunrise.
Central Market - After sunrise, the tour returns to town for guests to enjoy their inclusive breakfast at the hotel.
Preah Khan - The journey back to Angkor includes a stop at Preah Khan (meaning “The Sacred Sword”), a large temple complex built to commemorate the King’s victory over the Chams (now Vietnam) in 1191.
Neak Pean - The tour continues with visits to a series of temples: Neak Pean, Ta Som, and East Mebon, located close to each other along the road. Neak Pean is an artificial island with a Buddhist temple on a circular island in Jayatataka Baray. After visiting many temples, a stop for a local lunch is needed.
Ta Prohm - Post-lunch, the tour proceeds to Ta Nei, Ta Prohm, and Banteay Kdei temples. Ta Prohm is famous for the ancient trees whose roots have intertwined with the temple’s masonry. This temple was featured in the Tomb Raider movie starring Angelina Jolie. The tour returns to town around 3 pm.
Beng Mealea and Tonle Sap
Central Market - The day begins at 8:30 am, heading directly to Kpg Pluk and stopping at the boat port, a journey of about 30 km.
Tonle Sap Lake - A motorized boat ride takes visitors along the river to the three Kompong Pluk villages at the edge of Tonle Sap Lake. The population of around 3,000 lives in houses elevated 6 meters above the water, making a living from fishing in Tonle Sap and the surrounding mangrove forests.
Beng Mealea - After a meal, usually at one of the unique floating cafes, the tour continues to the ruins of Beng Mealea Temple, a Hindu temple. Beng Mealea remains largely unrestored, with trees and thick brush thriving among its towers and courtyards, and many stones lying in heaps. It was once unpopular due to difficult access (poor roads) and its distance of 77 km from Siem Reap. After exploring Beng Mealea, the tour returns to town for a long drive back.
