Angkor Wat - Angkor Wat is a vast temple complex in Cambodia, recognized as one of the largest religious monuments globally, covering an area of 162.6 hectares. Initially built as a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, it gradually transitioned into a Buddhist temple by the late 12th century.
Ta Prohm - Renowned for its enormous trees and sprawling roots, Ta Prohm is one of Angkor’s most iconic temples. This jungle temple gained fame from the adventure film “The Tomb Raider,” with several scenes shot at Ta Prohm.
Ta Keo - As one of Angkor’s tallest monuments, Ta Keo is a mountain temple constructed by Jayavarman V, located just east of Angkor Thom. Its five sanctuaries sit atop a 22-meter-high, five-tiered pyramid, offering excellent views of the surrounding landscape. The pyramid-shaped Ta Keo symbolizes Mount Meru, the mythical mountain at the center of the world in Hindu mythology.
Angkor Thom - Angkor Thom, an ancient city of the Khmer Empire, was established around 1181 AD during the reign of the illustrious Khmer king Jayavarman VII. This nearly square city is encircled by 8-meter-high walls stretching over 12 kilometers, with five grand gopura gates providing entry. The city’s name translates to “large city” or “great city.”
Terrace of the Elephants - Situated within the walled city of Angkor Thom, the Terrace of the Elephants is a ruined temple complex in Cambodia. King Jayavarman VII used the terrace as a platform to view his triumphant returning army. It was connected to the palace of Phimeanakas, of which only a few remnants remain.
Bayon Temple - The Bayon is a lavishly adorned Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia, famously known for its four stone smiling faces or four faces of Buddha. Constructed in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon is located at the heart of Jayavarman’s capital, Angkor Thom.
Beng Mealea Remote Temple, Kompong Phluk Floating and Fishing Village, and Tonle Sap Great Lake
Beng Mealea - Beng Mealea Temple, also known as Lotus Pond, was originally built as a Hindu temple, though it features carvings with Buddhist motifs. Beng Mealea is approximately 65 km from Siem Reap by road.
Kompong Phluk - Kampong Phluk is a commune and village in Siem Reap Province, located in northern-central Cambodia. This village, built on stilts on the Tonle Sap, derives its name from “Harbor of the Tusks.” The community primarily relies on fishing for sustenance, engaging in fishing activities during Cambodia’s wet season.
Tonle Sap Lake - The Great Lake Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Tonle Sap is a seasonally flooded freshwater lake, with the Tonle Sap Lake and a 120 km long river, the Tonle Sap River, connecting the lake to the Mekong River.
