- Angkor Thom South Gate - The South Gate of Angkor Thom is a favorite among visitors due to its complete restoration, with many original heads still intact. It serves as the main entrance from Angkor Wat to Angkor Thom.
- Bayon Temple - Constructed nearly a century after Angkor Wat, the Bayon Temple’s initial structure remains unknown. Positioned at the center of a royal city, it likely began as a temple-mountain symbolizing Mount Meru. The temple’s middle section was expanded in a second building phase, with the current Bayon representing the third and final art style phase. The Bayon is renowned for its grand architecture, featuring over 200 large faces carved on 54 towers, creating a majestic presence.
- Angkor Thom - Angkor Thom is a remarkable expression of genius, embodying Buddhist cosmology on a grand scale, akin to the work of great painters.
- Baphuon Temple - Baphuon Temple stands on a rectangular sandstone base with five equally sized levels, unlike the typical successively smaller levels. The first three levels are encircled by sandstone galleries, marking the first use of stone galleries with a central tower. Two cross-shaped libraries with four porches are located in the courtyard, originally linked by an elevated walkway supported by columns.
- Phimeanakas - Situated near the center of the Royal Palace’s enclosed area, Phimeanakas Temple was once topped with a golden pinnacle, described by Zhou Daguan as the Tower of Gold. Built from roughly hewn sandstone blocks, it features minimal decoration.
- Terrace of the Elephants - The elephants, ridden by servants and princes, move gracefully as if on a leisurely stroll. The evenly spaced steps overcome any obstacle, while the forest they traverse is impenetrable to all but the smallest creatures and the largest animals, which create paths through the untouched vegetation.
- Terrace of the Leper King - The Terrace of the Leper King continues the grandeur of Jayavarman VII’s reign, adorned with dramatic bas-reliefs on both the interior and exterior. During clearing, the EFEO discovered a second wall with similar bas-reliefs, suggesting evidence of late rites. This second wall, two meters wide, was built in front of the collapsed original without clearing the rubble. The EFEO has recently created a false corridor for visitors to view the reliefs on the first wall.
- Ta Nei Temple - Ta Nei is a late 12th-century stone temple in Angkor, Cambodia, built during King Jayavarman VII’s reign. Located near the northwest corner of the East Baray, a large sacred reservoir, it was dedicated to the Buddha.
- Ta Prohm Temple - Known as the kingdom of the Trees, Ta Prohm remains largely untouched by archaeologists, aside from visitor pathways and structural reinforcements. Its natural state allows visitors to experience the wonder felt by early explorers. Enveloped in dense jungle, Ta Prohm exudes a romantic aura, with fig, banyan, and kapok trees spreading roots over stones and intertwining branches forming a canopy. The temple’s haunting charm captivates visitors as the roots entwine the walls and towers.
- Angkor Wat - Angkor Wat, the largest and best-preserved monument of the Angkor group, is an architectural masterpiece. Its perfect composition, balance, proportions, reliefs, and sculptures make it one of the world’s finest monuments. It is widely believed to be a funerary temple for King Suryavarman II, oriented westward to symbolize the connection between the setting sun and death. The bas-reliefs, designed for viewing in the order of Hindu funerary rituals, support this purpose.
- Phnom Bakheng - Phnom Bakheng, the highest temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park, offers the best panoramic views of the area. Dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, it is one of the oldest temples in the park.
