The name of the city translates to “large city” or “great city.”
• Bayon Temple - The Bayon is a richly adorned Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia, famously known for its four stone smiling faces or four faces of Buddha. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon is situated at the center of Jayavarman’s capital, Angkor Thom.
• Terrace of the Elephants - The Terrace of the Elephants is part of the walled city of Angkor Thom, a ruined temple complex in Cambodia. This terrace was used by Angkor’s king Jayavarman VII as a platform to view his victorious returning army. It was connected to the palace of Phimeanakas, of which only a few ruins remain.
• Ta Keo - Ta Keo is one of the tallest monuments in Angkor, a mountain temple constructed by Jayavarman V, located slightly east of Angkor Thom. Its five sanctuaries are positioned atop a 22-meter-high five-stepped pyramid, offering excellent views of the surrounding area. The pyramid-shaped Ta Keo was built to symbolize Mount Meru, the mountain considered the center of the world in Hindu mythology.
