Angkor Wat & Sunset Tour
Angkor Wat - The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel at 8:00 am to visit the Angkor Wat temple. The journey includes exploring local villages and the forest surrounding Angkor Wat. As the largest and best-preserved religious monument globally, Angkor Wat is a Khmer architectural masterpiece. Its perfect composition, balance, proportions, relief, and sculpture make it one of the world’s finest monuments. Angkor Wat combines two fundamental Khmer temple architecture plans: the temple-mountain and the later galleried temple. It represents Mount Meru, the home of the devas in Hindu mythology. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west, a feature that has sparked scholarly debate. The temple is admired for its architectural grandeur and harmony, extensive bas-reliefs, and numerous devatas adorning its walls. Welcome to Angkor, Cambodia.
Angkor Thom - Angkor Thom was the fortified capital city of Cambodia during the Empire era. Originally named Yashodarapura by King Yasorvarman I, Angkor Thom means “great king city.” It houses numerous Hindu and Buddhist sanctuaries, including the royal palace and Bayon temple with its smiling faces. The city is aligned with cardinal directions, featuring massive tower gates and statues of Demons and Gods.
Bayon Temple - Located in the center of Angkor Thom, Bayon is an ancient capital city of the Khmer Empire. Built by King Jayavarman VII and dedicated to Lord Lokesvara, a savior god in Mahayana Buddhism, Bayon features 49 towers, each adorned with four smiling faces. Tourists often refer to Bayon as the “Most Beautiful Smiling Faces Temple” in the world. These faces smile in four main directions: East for Shiva, South for Brahma, West for Vishnu, and North for Indra. In Buddhism, these faces are dedicated to Lokesvara or King Jayavarman VII, representing the four well-known precepts of The Main Buddha: Lovingkindness, Compassion, Joy, and Sincerity. Some scholars suggest Bayon was a gigantic stone map of Cambodia, dedicated to the 54 main states of Cambodia at the time. Bayon has 49 towers and 5 tower gates of Angkor Thom city, totaling 54 towers.
Baphuon Temple - Baphuon is an impressive Hindu monument built by King Udiyatidyavarman II from 1050 to 1066, dedicated to Lord Shiva as a symbol of Mount Meru, a sacred home for Hindu deities. Baphuon is a grand pyramid Hindu temple in the Angkor Thom complex, featuring a charming sandstone structure connected to the main entrance by a raised walkway. It is one of the region’s major attractions, with the top platform offering excellent views of the surrounding jungle and landscape.
Terrace of the Elephants - The Elephant Terrace is a beautiful royal conference hall located just in front of the royal palace of the Angkor Empire King. Elephants were used to transport Kings, the royal family, and generals, as well as to move sandstone from quarries to build temples in Angkor city. Here, visitors can admire the impressive sculptures of elephants depicted in battle on the walls.
Ta Prohm - Ta Prohm is Cambodia’s most popular jungle temple, famously featured in the Hollywood movie “The Tomb Raider.” Built by King Jayavarman VII in 1186 and dedicated to his mother in the form of Prachnabaramita, a goddess of Mercy and the personification of Wisdom in Mahayana Buddhism, Ta Prohm means “Brahma God.” Originally named “Rajavihara,” meaning “The Royal Monastery,” it is located about 6 km northeast of Angkor Wat. The temple’s trees and roots envelop the ruins, making it a popular tourist attraction. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds. Ta Prohm also served as an important royal school and was the Royal University of Buddhism, with 18 high priests, 2523 teachers, and 615 dancers.
Pre Rup - Pre Rup is a massive brick stone temple built as the state temple of King Rajendravarman II in 961 A.D., dedicated to Lord Shiva as a symbol of Mount Meru in Hindu mythology. “Pre” means “Turn” and “Rup” means “Body,” so Pre Rup translates to “turning off the body temple.” The temple’s name reflects the belief that funerals were conducted here, with ashes ritually rotated in different directions during the service. Highly recommended!
Phnom Bakheng - Phnom Bakheng is a major temple tour in the Angkor Region, attracting thousands of tourists daily for sunset views. Before Angkor Thom, Phnom Bakheng was the center of the Ancient Capital City of the Khmer Empire. King Yasovarman built a Hindu temple atop Phnom Bakheng Hill, where tourists enjoy a short stay for sunset views. Phnom Bakheng is the most popular sunset spot, with visitors exploring Angkor temples from morning till evening to witness the beautiful sunset from the top of Bakheng temple. From the top, visitors can enjoy stunning views of Angkor and the surrounding local villages and farms. Afterward, guests are transferred back to their hotel in Siem Reap city to relax and enjoy their stay.
Angkor Sunrise & Banteay Srei Tour
Angkor Wat - Today’s tour starts early, with a pick-up from your hotel lobby at 4:30 am to ensure you don’t miss the best sunrise spot. The Sunrise Tour is a must-do activity for tourists in Cambodia, especially at the Siem Reap Angkor tourism center. To capture or experience a spectacular sunrise at Angkor Wat, head to the reflecting pool in front of the main temple. Position yourself behind the reflection pool to see the sky’s colors mirrored in the water as the sun rises, allowing you to capture the iconic sight on camera. After the sunrise visit, return to your hotel for breakfast and refreshment.
Banteay Srei - Banteay Srei is Cambodia’s most beautiful pink stone temple, located about 37 km north of Angkor Wat. Banteay Srei means “Lady Temple,” and its charm lies in its remarkable preservation, small size, and exquisite decoration. Banteay Srei is a true jewel of Khmer Art, with fine and intricate carvings. Locals believe it was built by women, hence the name “Lady Temple” or “Banteay Srei.” Originally named Isvarapura, it was built by King Rajendravarman II in 967 and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Discovered by a Frenchman in 1914, the site was not cleared until 1924. The first major temple restoration project was established by EFEO in 1923 using the reinstating method.
Preah Khan - Preah Khan, or Holy Sword Temple, is another grand and extensive temple complex in Siem Reap. Most parts of the temple are in good condition, showcasing fine Khmer carvings. It is dedicated to the King’s father and served as a Royal school and university of fine arts and culture.
Ta Som - Ta Som is a Mahayana Buddhism temple built by King Jayavarman VII, dedicated to his ancestors and Master. Some scholars believe King Jayavarman VII dedicated it to his father, King Dharanindravarman II. Located east of Neak Poan Royal Hospital, its main attraction is the east gate, still embraced by trees and roots. Highly recommended!
Neak Pean - Neak Pean Temple is situated in the center of Jayatadak Lake, surrounded by water. Neak Pean means “the entwined serpents.” Originally designed for medical purposes, the ancients believed that entering these pools would balance the elements in the bather, thus curing disease. It is one of the many hospitals built by Jayavarman VII, based on the ancient Hindu belief of balance. Four connected pools represent Water, Earth, Fire, and Wind, each linked to the central water source, the main tank, by a stone conduit presided over by one of Four Great Animals (maha ajaneya pasu): Elephant, Bull, Horse, and Lion, corresponding to the north, east, south, and west quarters.
Banteay Samre - Banteay Samre temple is located on the east side of Yasorvarmantadak (water reservoir), built by King Suriyavarman II and dedicated to his family and friends. Banteay Samre is well-preserved, with its stone carvings harmoniously integrated with the surrounding nature. It has a quiet and fresh atmosphere and is a Hindu temple in the Angkor Wat Style. Banteay Samre means “The Citadel of Samre.” It was excellently restored by Maurice Glaize from 1936 until 1944. The design of its single ogival tower is immediately recognizable as Angkor Wat style, similar to other temples in the region such as Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda. Due to its similarity to some monuments in northeast Thailand, it resembles a compact Phimai. While there are no inscriptions describing its foundation, it likely was built by a high official of the court during King Suryavarman II’s reign.
Phnom Kulen & Beng Mealea Tour
Phnom Kulen National Park - Phnom Kulen is a sacred mountain in Cambodia, offering numerous attractions, including holy waterfalls, the reclining Buddha, a sacred river with a thousand Lingas, Srash Damrei, and Bat Cave. Phnom Kulen means “The Lychee Mountain” and is a Cambodian National Park and Historical Archaeological site. Phnom Kulen holds significant symbolic importance for Cambodia as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. King Jayavarman II proclaimed himself The God King and initiated The Devaraja Cult here. This sacred mountain was also where King Jayavarman II declared his independence. During the Angkorean Era, the relief was known as Mahendraparvata, meaning “The Mountain of Great Indra.”
Beng Mealea - After the Phnom Kulen Tour, the next stop is Prasat Beng Mealea. Beng Mealea is Cambodia’s most popular remote jungle temple, located about 66 km northeast of Siem Reap city. Beng Mealea is an incredible ruin that remains in harmony with nature in its original ruined condition. It is untouched by restoration and conservation projects and opened to visitors in the early 2000s after land mines were cleared. Beng Mealea was built by King Suriyavarman II and completed by King Dharanindravarman II. The sarcophagus-like urn and “Indiana Jones” kingdom environment, with piles of fallen stones and dark galleries, make it an enjoyable visit, provided caution is exercised.
Tonle Sap Lake - Tonle Sap Great Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the Southeast Asia Peninsula, located almost in the center of Cambodia. It is surrounded by Siem Reap state, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Cham, and Kampong Thom provinces. 60% of Cambodians earn their living from the lake, which is home to over 200 fish species. It is the largest freshwater lake and one of the world’s most diverse and productive ecosystems, designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997 due to its high biodiversity. Entering the 21st century, the lake and its surrounding ecosystems face increasing pressure from deforestation, infrastructure development, and climate change. After the tour, guests are transferred back to their hotel in Siem Reap city to relax and enjoy their stay. End of our tour services!
