This village is home to around 10,000 residents, all of whom are engaged in the fishing industry. Discover the canals during the wet season or the streets in the dry season of this remarkable town. In the wet season, the houses seem to float as water reaches the verandas, while in the dry season, the towering stilts are exposed, making the houses resemble wooden skyscrapers.
- Kompong Khleang - Visit one of the pagodas here, constructed on the site of an ancient temple, and admire the wall paintings. There may also be an opportunity to visit a local house to gain insight into village life. Cruise into the open waters of the great lake to observe a small floating village and learn more about this extraordinary natural flood barrier. Later, return to Siem Reap by road.
- Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium - Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium (AWA) is Cambodia’s first wildlife sanctuary and aquarium, located just minutes away from Siem Reap’s famous temples.

Amazing 'floating' village. Place for non stop photo taking. - Amazing 'floating' village. Place for non stop photo taking. The houses were high on their stilts as the water was low - at the end of our boat ride we had lunch in one; quite a few steps to climb!! It was quite a long fast boat ride out to the lake - not much to see in the lake itself but lots of activity to see on the way as locals fished in the river.
A very different view on how people live and work and although the houses look ramshackle the people are lovely and everything is 'pretty' in its own way.
On the way there and back we drove through villages seeing the fish being dried and smoked - our guide stopped to buy some for his dinner!
A wonderful experience not to be missed.

Slice of life on Tonle Sap - I am a yearly visitor to Siem Reap and this was my first experience visiting Kampong Khleang about 90 minutes away. I believe that it is a community of about 10K people, and their main source of income is fishing. Life is very very challenging here, but the people are exceptionally warm and interactive. For me, a significant goal of my journeys to Cambodia is about PERSPECTIVE .... and this place serves as a profound example of such. It is a real eye-opener. Please consider visiting this little village and help them in any way possible by purchasing souvenirs.
