- Phnom Bakheng - Bakheng Mountain is situated near Angkor Wat Temple, approximately 1.5 kilometers northwest. This Hindu temple mountain, dedicated to Shiva, was constructed in the 9th century by King Yasovarman I. As the oldest temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park, it is a major tourist attraction in Cambodia. The temple is perched on a 79-meter-tall hill and features five sandstone sanctuaries on the top level, arranged in a quincunx pattern with one in the center and one at each corner. It is also encircled by 108 small towers, most of which have collapsed.
Phnom Bakheng is a favored location for sunset viewing, offering panoramic vistas of the Angkor Archaeological Park. It is also a popular spot for sunrise, though the views are not as impressive as those at Angkor Wat.
For those visiting the Angkor Archaeological Park, it is recommended to visit Phnom Bakheng in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset.
