You can bring breakfast with you or enjoy it at a restaurant along the way, with lunch also taken en route. Preah Vihear Temple is a Khmer temple perched on a 525-metre (1,722 ft) cliff in the Dangrek Mountains, located in the Preah Vihear province of northern Cambodia, near the border of Kantharalak district in Sisaket province, eastern Thailand. In 1962, after a prolonged dispute between Thailand and Cambodia, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague ruled in favor of Cambodia. Offering expansive views across a plain, Prasat Preah Vihear boasts the most dramatic setting of all the temples from the six-century-long Khmer Empire.
- Koh Ker Temple - Situated in Preah Vihear province, Koh Ker was briefly the capital of the Khmer empire from 928 to 944 under King Jayavarman IV and his son Hasavaraman II. Jayavarman IV relocated the capital nearly 100km northeast to Koh Ker in 928, where numerous temples were constructed during his reign. About twenty years later, his successor moved the capital back to the Angkor area.
- Beng Mealea - Beng Mealea Temple, meaning “lotus pond,” is located at the base of Kulen Mountain. Originally built as a Hindu temple, it also features carvings with Buddhist motifs. Constructed primarily from sandstone, the temple remains largely unrestored, with trees and dense brush flourishing among its towers and courtyards, and many stones scattered in large piles. Although it was once difficult to access, a recently built road to the Koh Ker temple complex now passes by Beng Mealea.

Following our visit to Preah Vihear temple, we’ll proceed to the temple collection at Koh Ker, with Prasat Thom, a striking 30m-pyramid, as the most renowned temple in the group. It soars majestically above the plain and the encompassing woods.
Lastly, we’ll make our way to Beng Mealea, or Lotus Pond in English. This temple is conjectured to have close ties to Angkor Wat due to their similar designs. The temple stands largely untouched, with large trees and dense shrubs sprouting from the apex of the tower.
