• Banteay Srei - Constructed primarily from red sandstone, Banteay Srei is renowned for its intricate decorative wall carvings, which remain visible today. Unlike other major temples at Angkor, it was not commissioned by a monarch but by a king’s counselor in the 10th century. This temple is exceptionally well-preserved and features some of the most exquisite and skillfully crafted reliefs in Cambodia.
• Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre - The BBC is a butterfly zoo located near Angkor Wat. Established in 2009, it is the largest enclosed butterfly center in Southeast Asia. Designed and funded by British butterfly enthusiasts Ben Hayes and Mike Baltzer, the BBC is part of a Cambodian initiative that links responsible tourism with environmental conservation. Butterflies, scientifically classified as lepidopterans along with moths, are the focus of the BBC. The center displays a wide variety of local lepidopterans in a large netted garden. Due to the short lifespan of butterflies and the seasonal nature of many species, the center hosts twice as many species during November and December. The BBC also operates as a sustainable butterfly farm, offering training to locals. Some butterflies are raised for the center’s gardens, while others are sold and exported.
• Cambodia Landmine Museum - The Cambodia Landmine Museum and Relief Center aims to educate the public about the dangers of landmines and supports education for Cambodian youth. This facility serves as a place of healing for the body, heart, and mind. It is believed that love, support, and education are crucial for securing a better future for the children residing here and for visitors.
• Preah Dak - Preah Dak Village is a renowned and popular location for local markets featuring objects and arts. Visitors can explore beautiful sites and experience natural life. The village is famous as the Khmer Noodle Village and Palm Sugar Producing Village, making it a popular tourist destination in Siem Reap.
• Banteay Samre - Banteay Samré was expertly restored by Maurice Glaize between 1936 and 1944. Its single ogival tower is distinctly Angkor Wat in style. The temple’s resemblance to some monuments in northeast Thailand gives it the appearance of a compact Phimai. Although there are no inscriptions detailing its foundation, it is believed to have been constructed by a high-ranking court official during King Suryavarman II’s reign.
• Chau Srei Vibol - Chau Srei Vibol is the largest temple complex in the Angkor plains located outside the Archaeological Park. Situated east of Angkor and northeast of Roluos, it was on the old main route from Angkor to the northeast, halfway to Beng Melea and the Phnom Kulen sandstone quarries. A new pagoda belonging to a Buddhist monastery is located within the medieval temple compound, though it is not immediately noticeable. What appears to be a large outer temple wall is actually the second enclosure, a laterite wall with sandstone Gopuram gates at the cardinal points. Inside this expansive compound are two distinct structures worth visiting: one atop a natural hillock in the center and another at its southern base. Both are in ruins but remain well-recognizable.
• Prasat Bakong - Explore the impressive 9th-century Bakong temple, one of the key Roluos temples. Bakong is the first temple mountain made of sandstone, constructed by the Khmer empire’s rulers at Angkor near modern Siem Reap, Cambodia. In the late 9th century AD, it served as the official state temple of King Indravarman I in the ancient city of Hariharalaya, now known as Roluos. Bakong is situated at the center of the former Khmer Empire’s capital city in the 9th century.
