Kruja Castle - Kruja. Steeped in history and tradition, Kruja is the birthplace of patriots and the heart of Albania’s fight for independence from the Ottoman Empire. It was here that Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, Albania’s most revered national hero, defended the nation against Ottoman invasion. The National Museum, dedicated to this hero, is located within the renowned Kruja Castle and showcases both the legendary hero’s story and the traditional lifestyle of the city’s inhabitants. The city’s renowned bazaar acts as a link between this illustrious past and the present, offering a wide variety of traditional products crafted by local artisans.
Budva - The journey to Budva takes approximately 3 hours, passing through the charming town of Petrovac, visiting the old town, and viewing the famous island of Sveti Stefan. Budva’s old town is one of the oldest settlements along the Adriatic Sea, dating back around 2,500 years, making it a stunning and historical site. A stroll through the town reveals ancient churches and palaces, all constructed from local grey stone. In front of Budva Citadel, the remains of the original settlement, uncovered by an earthquake, are on display.
Budva-Cetinje-Kotor
Cetinje - The first stop is the city of Cetinje. Home to one of Montenegro’s most significant monasteries, the Monastery of Cetinje houses relics of St. Peter of Cetinje. As the Old Royal Capital of Montenegro, Cetinje is renowned as a city-museum. This peaceful town, with its old architecture, serves as the mayor’s residence. From here, a scenic drive leads to one of the true highlights of the Adriatic coast - the Bay of Kotor.
Kotor - The stark mountains plunging into the dark waters have drawn comparisons to a Norwegian fjord as we drive to Kotor. The walking tour here includes visits to the Cathedral of St. Tryphon, St. Luka Church, and St. Mihail Church. The tour takes visitors through some of Kotor’s spacious squares, lined with beautiful palaces, various impressive religious buildings, and fortifications, offering a glimpse of the city from above. Overnight stay in Kotor.
Kotor-Podgorica-Shkodra-Tirana
Podgorica - After breakfast, the drive continues to Podgorica. In Podgorica, the Sastavci or Skalines – the oldest bridge in Podgorica, established during Roman rule, will be visited. The Clock Tower and the Old Town, located in the heart of Podgorica, preserve a rich historical and cultural heritage. The Clock Tower, a symbol of Podgorica, is the most beautiful example of architecture from the Turkish period.
Shkoder - Perched on a rocky hill overlooking the city by the rivers of Buna and Drini, the most significant monument of Shkoder, The Castle of Rozafa, can be found. After exploring the Castle area, visitors can explore the Leaden Mosque and Catholic Church, noting the diverse religious elements and architecture. The famous Viennese mask factory, located near Shkodra, will also be visited. The Venetian masks crafted in Shkodra are handmade, combining traditional techniques with contemporary decoration. These masks, featuring intricate details, bright colors, fancy feathers, gold leaf, and crystals, are unique pieces of art. They are exported worldwide and sold in six shops in Venice.
