Castle of Kruja - Perched on a hill with a view of a lush green valley, Kruja is more than just a scenic town in Albania; it stands as a testament to Albania’s enduring resilience and strength throughout history. The city, historically sought after for its strategic location, has seen various conquerors, including the Romans and Byzantines. Explore the Castle of Kruja, a stronghold of steadfast resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Within the castle walls, dating back to the fifth and sixth centuries A.D., lies the Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg Museum, which opened in 1981.
-
Kruja Bazaar - Close to the castle’s entrance is a traditional market, originating from the time of Skanderbeg. Visitors can discover Albanian crafts such as embroidered goods, carpets, silver items, copper, alabaster, filigree, traditional attire, and antiques.
-
Sari Salltik - The Tekke of Sari Salltik, a sacred site of the Bektashi order, a Sufi branch of Islam, is located atop Sarisalltik Mountain at 1176 meters above sea level. At the summit, the mountain features a large cave, 15 meters deep and 4 meters high, housing a sacred fountain. Adjacent to the cave is a Masjid—a small mosque, the first ever built in Albania—containing the grave of St. Sari Salltik, a legendary figure of the Bektashi order. Many visitors also come to enjoy the panoramic view from ‘the balcony of the Adria,’ overlooking the area towards the Adriatic Sea.
-
Ethnographic Museum of Kruja - Also within the castle walls are the Ethnographic Museum and the Dollma Tekke.
