• Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - This pilgrimage site for Christians is where Mary is believed to have spent her last 10 years with John the Apostle. Pope Paul VI visited in 1967, unofficially confirming its authenticity, followed by Pope John Paul II in 1979 and Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. The location was identified based on the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich, a German nun who described the house in detail to writer Clemens Brentano. Her visions led to the discovery of a building matching her descriptions, prompting archaeological work that allows visitors to see Mary’s House today.
