- Gua Tempurung - Tempurung Cave, located in Gopeng, Perak, Malaysia, is a favorite among spelunkers or caving enthusiasts. Spanning over 3 km, it is one of the longest caves in Peninsular Malaysia. This cave tour offers the “Golden Flowstone” option, an easy and exciting 40-minute tour from the entrance to the Golden Flowstone platform 3.
The cave’s tunnel stretches approximately 2 km from east to west beneath the limestone hills known as Gunung Tempurung and Gunung Gajah. It consists of five large domes and is believed to have existed since 8,000 B.C., around 10,000 years ago.
The domes feature ceilings resembling coconut shells, each with unique calcium formations and marble, existing in varying temperatures and water levels. These caves are renowned for their stunning gallery of stalagmites, stalactites, and other remarkable rock formations, which are exceptional speleological wonders unique to this region.
- Kellie’s Castle - The next stop is Kellie’s Castle, built by a Scottish planter as a gift for his wife. This 19th-century castle is a popular local attraction due to its beautiful architecture and intriguing mysteries.
- Ipoh Railway Station - The tour continues to the Ipoh Railway Station, affectionately known as the ‘Taj Mahal of Ipoh’. This charming attraction features ornate Moorish architecture and a beautifully landscaped area with fountains.
- Birch Memorial Clock Tower - Situated in a square in Old Ipoh, the four-sided Birch Memorial Clock Tower stands in front of the Ipoh State Mosque. The white-washed structure is surrounded by four statues representing the pillars of British administration: ‘patience, justice, loyalty, and fortitude’. Unlike other clock towers in Malaysia, Ipoh’s has a story of violence, revenge, and a Malay uprising.
- Concubine Lane - In 2015, Ipoh Old Town was a quiet town known for its laid-back atmosphere, cafes, traditional coffee, food, and vibrant street art. The three Concubine Lanes were not widely known. In July 2016, Lonely Planet listed Ipoh as one of the best Asian destinations to visit, and photos of the Concubine Lanes began appearing in news articles. The lanes were opened to the public.
- Ipoh Heritage Walk - The Ipoh Heritage Walk is a leisurely stroll through the compact and historic old town area of Ipoh. The walk is approximately 4 miles long, but it can be extended or shortened based on energy levels.
In just over 130 years, Ipoh transformed from a sleepy Malay village to the bustling metropolis it is today, the fourth largest city in Malaysia with a population of over 700,000.
Its boom period began around 1880 and continued well into the 1930s, largely due to tin mining, earning it the nickname “the town that tin built.” The tin rush attracted many migrants, mostly Chinese, who went on to build substantial fortunes.
At the end of the tour, return to your hotel in Kuala Lumpur after a long day with a hassle-free transfer.
- Perak Tong Cave Temple - Visitors can see a 40-foot tall Golden Sitting Buddha statue dominating the temple. The cavern walls are adorned with colorful murals depicting characters and events from Chinese mythology. Behind the statue, a flight of over 450 steps leads into the far recesses of the cave, out through an opening on the side of the hill, offering a view of the northern suburbs of Ipoh from the highest pavilion.
