Stop at: Sungai Lembing Mines
Sungai Lembing Town is located northwest of Kuantan, about an hour’s drive away. Once renowned for its tin mines, it was known as the largest underground tin mine in the world. Today, Sungai Lembing has transformed into a charming township. Known as the “cowboy town,” it has been revamped for tourists. Visitors can explore the old market square, Chinese clan houses, and surroundings. A visit to a home bakery, which still uses wood-fired ovens to make buns, coconut biscuits, cakes, and “coffee-croutons,” is a must. Discover this quaint town, observe locals using high hanging bridges to cross the Lembing River during the rainy season, and visit the Tin-Mine Museum, which showcases equipment, tin samples, and a display of the 785-kilometer network of underground tunnels.
Stop at: Lunch at Malay Traditional Food (Original Nasi Kukus)
Nasi kukus, a simple yet delightful meal of steamed rice paired with spiced fried chicken, offers a perfect blend of sweet, savory, and slightly spicy curry. Widely available in Kuantan, the fluffy rice and spiced fried chicken are so delicious that guests may be tempted to have seconds.
Stop at: Sungai Pandan Waterfall & Panching Cave
Also known as Gua Charah, Panching Cave is located 25 kilometers west of Kuantan. It serves as a Buddhist sanctuary, housing a large reclining Buddha statue and other smaller statues. These are situated within the intricate flower chambers, with the largest chamber offering a panoramic view of the surrounding area. As visitors hike up the cave, they will encounter smaller cavities typical of a limestone cave. A natural opening in the cave’s roof allows sunlight to illuminate the Buddha statue at certain times of the day. Afterward, guests can proceed to the Pandan Waterfall for a refreshing dip in the natural pool.

Stop at: Lao Zi Temple
Located 13 kilometers from Sungai Lembing, Lao Zi Temple is home to the reputedly ‘longest manmade dragon.’ Visitors begin their journey through the dragon’s ‘tail’ and exit at the temple through its ‘mouth.’ Devotees believe that good luck comes to those who make the 2,700-foot pilgrimage through the dragon. Annually, nearly 100,000 visitors come to pay homage to the founder of Taoism.
Stop at Lunch - Hup Kee Noodle
This pork-free noodle spot is where locals go for their noodle fix. The signature dish is fish ball noodles, available dry or with soup, with the option to add yong tau foo (vegetables stuffed with fish or meat paste). There are four types of noodles to choose from. Slightly thicker than the usual yellow noodle, they are springy to the bite and pair well with yong tau foo. La Gourmet also serves delicious chee cheong fun (rice noodle roll) with generous servings of onions, sesame seeds, and fried shallots. Enjoy the meal with a refreshing iced coffee or tea.
Stop at Masjid Sultan Ahmad Shah
Constructed between 1991 and 1993, this powder-blue building is the east coast’s most famous mosque and a top tourist attraction in Kuantan. Located beside a vast football field, the structure features Moorish architecture and beautiful designs. At night, it is a stunning sight when its minarets, spires, and turrets are brightly lit.
Stop at: Taman Esplanade
Taman Esplanade Kuantan is a great place to relax, take a stroll, or simply enjoy the surrounding views with a cup of coffee or tea. After this, guests will return to Kuala Lumpur and be dropped off at their hotel or designated drop-off point.
