This RIB safari embarks from Øystese and ventures into Fyksesund, the sole fjord branch of the Hardangerfjord that lacks road access throughout.
Upon departing the harbor, the journey proceeds into the main fjord before veering into Fyksesund — a narrow, dramatic fjord arm flanked by steep mountains and cascading waterfalls. As the expedition delves deeper into the fjord, the ambiance becomes increasingly serene and untouched.
The local skipper makes several pauses along the way, providing opportunities for photographs and sharing brief stories about the landscape, fjord life, and the people who once inhabited the area. During snowmelt and after rainfall, Fyksesund is at its most breathtaking, with numerous waterfalls tumbling down the mountainsides. The cruise approaches close enough to experience the refreshing mist from the falls.
Towards the fjord’s end, there is a stop outside Botnen, a historic and entirely roadless hamlet that offers a unique glimpse into traditional fjord life.
