Best Experience Ever! - Riku provided the best experience I’ve encountered thus far on my Japan Visit. I feel like I went through actual training to become a Samurai. I am grateful for the knowledge this museum had to offer. Thank you also to Riu for taking us on a guided tour and allowing us to interact with the history through artifacts.

Super interesting experience - This last minute decision to visit the museum was the best we made in Kyoto. What a nice experience, 1 hour learning all about Samurai and Ninjas. Guides during the tour speak very good english and the tour was super!

Immersive and interesting - We loved our visit to the Kyoto Samurai & Ninja Museum. The museum is both fun and very informative. We loved it so much that we didn’t even see the time pass! The English tour is very interesting, with clear explanations of the history of the samurai and ninja. We were able to put on samurai and ninja costumes, try the shuriken throw, and even participate in an initiation to the sword (Iaido) with a training sword.

Authentic, respectful and lots of fun - A great experience for 2-3 hours learning about samurai and ninja. The selection of armour, weapons and infographics on the history was great. Getting to hold some of the weapons (katana, naginata, gun) was cool. Our family of 4 (kids of 12 and 16) were marshalled through the 3-floor (I think) exhibition in a group of 20-25. It felt a little bit rushed but you were free to revisit parts of the exhibition after the tour. The experience of dressing in samurai/ninja clothes and throwing the shuriken was fun. The Iaido experience was the highlight for me - with us all dressed in do-gi and hakama the instructor (Nobu I think) expertly took us through a kata of moves with a wooden bokken each. The only slight criticism was that the group was too big for the space (~25 people). That aside, I’d highly recommend a visit. It was great fun.

Highly unlikely you’ll get a sword show. - I actually enjoyed the Museum. It was entertaining and educational. However, the web sight suggests that the 5:00 and 6:00 pm session include a sword fight. Not so. We went to the 5:30 sessions and there was no such event. When we asked about it, we were told the sword fighters “never came to work today.” When I asked the gentleman at the front entrance, he acted like they really didn’t have a show like that. So, we kind of feel like it was false advertising. Again, like the museum; just didn't like the misleading advertising. After all, we were under the impression Samurai were trustworthy.
