Unforgettable experience - 5 stars! - What an incredible experience from start to finish! We decided to add on the kimono rental, and we’re so glad we did. Upon arrival (note: the kimono fitting is at a nearby location separate from the ceremony), we were greeted by warm, friendly staff who offered us a selection of beautiful kimonos to choose from. The lovely lady who helped me with my kimono fitting also did my hair, and it looked absolutely stunning. I hadn't realised this was going to happen, so I was pleasantly surprised. Once dressed, we had the opportunity to walk around the area in our kimonos before returning for the tea ceremony. The ceremony began exactly on time, and we watched as the host performed the traditional ritual, which lasted about 10 minutes. Then, we had the chance to make our own matcha tea using a bamboo whisk. The process was calming and enjoyable, and the tea itself was delicious. I kept my kimono on after the ceremony as we were allowed to wear them until 5 pm. A small tip: the kimono is tied tightly, so by the end of the day, it was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable. I should’ve asked the staff to loosen it a little during the fitting. Overall, this was a 5-star experience that I’ll treasure forever from our trip to Japan. 100% recommended.

A highlight of our Kyoto visit! - Outstanding, a Kyoto highlight for us! I went with my daughter, we agreed it was probably the single best thing we did during our stay in Kyoto. The ceremony itself is very tranquil, detail oriented and fascinating. It is also very educational, our host was very well versed in the history and the subtleties of the tea ceremony. It is an opportunity to fully experience and learn about one small section of traditional Japanese culture. The process is essentially some history to place the ceremony in historical and cultural context, then a full demonstration, then individual tea making. We (dad and daughter) opted for the kimono option, even though daughter was unsure beforehand. If it is within your budget it is HIGHLY recommended. I thought I kimono was a fancy bathrobe, but the process of choosing and being fitted was fascinating in its own right. It added greatly to the experience and you are free to walk around the local shopping area in it as well. We were both very happy we took this option.

Peace & Tranquility - Learning the Japanese Tea Ceremony - We knew we wanted to do a traditional tea ceremony, but we had a bit of buyer’s remorse after booking thinking that it might be too touristy — especially with adding wearing kimono. We couldn’t have been more wrong. This was an absolutely DELIGHTFUL morning in full kimono (me and my husband) for the ceremony. We enjoyed an hour of peace and tranquility and learning from tea ceremony masters about what an important and revered tradition this is in Japan. The hosts — from the kimono dressing stage to the tea ceremony stage — could not have been more gracious and welcoming. We so enjoyed our time with the hosts and other guests, respecting a Japanese tradition. Highly recommend!

Lovely tea ceremony, but expensive kimono hire - The tea ceremony was lovely and we rented kimonos from Camellia Flower for an hour for the experience. However at 6000 yen each, this wasn’t good value, particularly for men with short hair!! Although we requested a family discount, sadly it was not available. Suggest renting externally at half the price and with a greater selection of kimonos. An hour beforehand should be sufficient.
