Join us for an enchanting night walking tour through the Gion District’s geisha streets and discover the “real Kyoto.” Our expert guide will reveal the hidden intricacies of the exclusive world of geishas and the enigmatic Shinto shrines.
This walking tour covers several geisha districts, shrines, and the beautifully preserved historic areas of Kyoto’s Higashiyama district. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Our guide is a native English speaker, known for clear and easy-to-understand communication. With extensive knowledge, the guide is prepared to answer all your questions thoroughly.
During the break, the guide will choose a refreshing Kyoto snack. While it’s a small snack and not a full meal, every effort will be made to accommodate dietary restrictions, including vegetarian and vegan options.

- For strollers, there are some steps and unpaved rocky paths which have to be manoeuvred during the tour

Fantastic Guided Tour about Geisha Life - When I initially booked this tour, it was actually a backup plan since all the geisha shows were booked. Well, I don't regret this tour one bit, as it was an excellent tour. Our tour guide Richard was very knowledgeable about geisha life and Kyoto. He had that calming energy that made you feel at peace. I also enjoyed the smaller group size. The tour did last a little longer which we didn't mind. If it weren't sooo cold that evening, we could last even longer. But, at 41 degrees the shivering burned up some energy. It was also nice to have the tour start in the evening, as the crowds start to dwindle as the time passed. More chances of better photos. We walked through very nice spots. The snack we had was a warm udon bowl which was delicious! All in all, I absolutely would recommend this tour!!!

Highlight of Japan Trip - TAKE THIS TOUR! This tour is one of those experiences that completely heightens the quality of your trip and gives you a new lens with which to experience the place you’re visiting. What Richard taught us about the geishas, traditional culture, history, Kyoto, samurais, the Shinto religion — everything! — gave me such a new understanding of Japan and Japanese culture. I starting taking notes mid-tour because this was information I wanted to remember. Richard is so thoughtful in what he shares and answered so many of our questions. I can’t recommend him and this tour enough. If I could, I would take every tour that he has available! He is a wealth of knowledge.

The perfect way to see... - The perfect way to see the most iconic parts of the city! Richard was one of the best guides I’ve had on my whole trip in Japan, he knows a lot about the culture and history of Kyoto. Also, we visited Kodaiji Temple, for me the highlight of the tour! That was insanely good! I fully recommend this incredible tour.

Highly Recommend - Don’t hesitate and go ahead and book this tour! This is a fantastic way to get to know Kyoto a little better. Richard is a wonderful tour guide. He kept a great pace, was very knowledgeable, and tailored the tour to the group. He arranged for a delicious food break. He welcomed any questions. He also graciously arranged for our group to enjoy an attraction that is typically not open during evenings.

Don’t Miss This!! - I cannot say enough good things about this tour. It’s the best way to experience Kyoto and Gion. It’s truly magical at night. My guide Richard was fantastic! Book this tour! - I cannot recommend this tour enough!
Richard was incredibly kind and patient, taking the time to answer every question. He not only answered all our questions and gave us detailed history of the area, he also showed us some hidden beautiful spots I would have otherwise missed. If you’re wondering whether or not to book this tour, book it! It was definitely one of our favorite experiences during our entire Japan trip!

Highlight of our stay in Kyoto! - The tour with Richard-san was fantastic! 素晴らしいよ！ his knowledge about Japanese history, traditional and contemporary culture runs deep and he shared with us so much and we could learn many a lot about Kyoto, the geisha culture and origins, Shinto and Buddhism believes and also about everyday life.
