Join us for an enchanting night walking tour through the Gion District’s geisha streets and discover the “real Kyoto.” Our expert guide will reveal the hidden intricacies of the exclusive world of geishas and the enigmatic Shinto shrines.
This walking tour covers several geisha districts, shrines, and the beautifully preserved historic areas of Kyoto’s Higashiyama district. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Our guide is a native English speaker, known for clear and easy-to-understand communication. With extensive knowledge, the guide is prepared to answer all your questions thoroughly.
During the break, the guide will choose a refreshing Kyoto snack. While it’s a small snack and not a full meal, every effort will be made to accommodate dietary restrictions, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Fascinating tour - Incredible experience with a great tour guide. Must do for anyone visiting Kyoto. We discussed everything from Geishas to religion to Japanese history. The entire family learned so much.

Night walk through Gion - Richard was a fantastic guide. So knowledgeable about the areas we saw. Giving us detailed insight to geisha life and traditions. Also pointing out great picture spots for us to take amazing shots. We will treasure these memories forever!!

Perfect time and guide to explore Gion! - We had a wonderful first evening touring Kyoto with Richard. Our group was small and Richard was very knowledgeable about Gion, Geisha life, the shrines, and culture of the region. Evening was the perfect time to wonder the streets— cooler and less crowded which made it a much more pleasant experience and great lighting for unique photos. Our macha snack was delicious— the perfect timing for a break where Richard answered many questions and made recommendations for other sights to see. He also gave us dining options at the end of the night for consideration which we used that evening and the next. Highly recommend this tour and Richard for your guide!

A perfect evening in Kyoto! - Richard was a wonderful, very knowledgeable guide. You could see his passion for Kyoto and his Japanese heritage as well understanding his perfect English. I was very happy with this tour because we saw parts of Kyoto we would have never found on our own and saw many Geisha’s. They were very beautiful. Thank you Richard!

Book this. - Do not hesitate booking this.
There was so very much information (which Richard brought alive with detail and example) which we were able to take with us on our further Japan adventure. Richard made Kyoto come alive for us. My husband is a slow-poke and there was no hurry-hurry. Utterly organized, detailed and researched. Other tourists were coming up to him and asking how to contact. There ya go! High bar set in the beginning of our Japan vacation.

Great Tour!!! - Wonderful walking tour avoiding crowds with a very knowledgeable and well-spoken tour guide focused on geisha history and culture but also including general Kyoto history. Richard was extremely knowledgeable on Kyoto history having grown up here. He is also a really talented story teller and kept us all gripped even after 3+ hours walking around the city. He was also kind and approachable answering any and all our questions throughout the tour. He knew the best spots for photos, avoiding crowds and also provided helpful recommendations for shops and restaurants. Highly recommend this tour with Richard!

Strange, long and confusing - This tour was overall not a good experience for our family. Richard was certainly knowledgeable and shared a lot of information (too much), but he did not make a connection with his audience nor present the information in an interesting or engaging manner. He never learned our names nor paid much attention to our needs, including one member of the tour who had an injury and had to sit more. A lot of the time he was walking way ahead of the group and it was difficult to know where he was or what we were supposed to do. The tour went 1 hour longer than scheduled and we still had not made it to the last stop. At that point, we had been on the tour for 4 hours and it was 9:30p. We were exhausted and just had to leave. On the plus side, we saw the beautiful pagoda at dusk, met the wonderful family who was also on the tour, got some great pictures and the dessert was delicious and substantial.
