• Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine - This shrine offers an incredible experience with its thousands of torii gates. The entire mountain is part of the shrine grounds, featuring a long bamboo forest trail and the soothing sounds of birds chirping. The entrance boasts immaculate and beautiful large gates and buildings, while deeper within, more secluded yet solemn shrines can be found, reminiscent of scenes from anime.

Visiting this expansive shrine with a guide is recommended to navigate the areas mentioned, unless you are comfortable with large crowds.

• Rengeji Temple - The temple’s stunning moss garden is truly breathtaking. Due to its remote and less accessible location, it is not frequently visited. Upon entering, the expansive tatami mat floors invite you to relax and enjoy the garden from the porch. Sitting on the tatami, breathing in the fresh air, is invigorating.

• Myomanji Temple - As one of the largest temples in northern Kyoto, it features a meticulously arranged garden of countless tiny rocks. Here, visitors can connect with the rich history of a significant Buddhist schism in Japan. This hidden gem is not crowded with visitors.

• Koryu-ji Temple - Originally built by the Hatashi, a group believed to have Korean roots in the 5th-6th century, this temple has endured since a fire in the 8th century and remains in its original form.

• Kinkakuji Temple - Known as the Golden Pavilion, this temple was once the villa of Shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga (1358-1408) and was converted into a temple after his death. It is famous for its top two floors, which are covered in gold leaf.

• Koetsuji Temple - Once the property of an art master skilled in various arts such as the tea ceremony and calligraphy, this temple boasts a magnificent garden with diverse trees, tea ceremony items, and unique layouts. The garden offers a splendid view over Kyoto city, especially popular during the autumn leaves and cherry blossom seasons.

• Nakamuraken - A stop at a local dessert shop offering unique Kyoto-style sweets such as Mochifu (a rice cake with a different texture from regular mochi) and shaved ice flavored with Yuzu (Japanese citrus) or Matcha.

• Matsuo Shrine - The largest shrine built by the powerful Hatashi tribe, cherished by the local community. It features a large koi fish pond where visitors can feed the fish, which react energetically to the food. It’s a delightful experience! Located in the western end of Kyoto, it is less accessible by train, but visits can be arranged upon request.
