Beautiful night walk. - Beautiful night tour. Saw excellent sites of Kyoto without the crowds. The moon was full and only partly cloudy skis so got excellent photos. Richard did an excellent job!!

Could not have asked for a better tour or tour guide in Kyoto. - This tour was the highlight of my trip. Richard is really knowledgable about geisha culture as well as Kyoto. He goes into details and answers questions thoroughly. Had I done this tour the first day I was in Kyoto, I would have hired Richard to do a private day tour or maybe even two. Thank you Richard for a great experience while in Kyoto.

A magical night in Kyoto 10/10! - Richard was one of the best tour guides I have ever experienced not just in Japan but all over the world. He was so very knowledgeable about every aspect of Kyoto from shrines to temples to the people that have lived in Kyoto for centuries. He had deep expertise on the world of the geishas and we toured numerous neighborhoods where he had a story to tell about each historical landmark. I learned so much and it was one of the most fascinating experiences of my life. We even saw a Maiko preparing for an evening out. Richard also went out of his way to give me some of the best restaurant recommendations in Kyoto. It truly was a 10/10 and 5 star experience. Richard really made Kyoto come alive for me and it was magical!

Magical evening tour of Japan's quaint districts - Richard hosted us on an insightful and thoughtful walking history tour through the Geisha district, Gion and Higashiyama. It was absolutely magical at night. He taught us about ancient and modern day Geisha training and culture and took us down lantern-lit private streets.
We stopped at his favorite noodle spot (Ramen En) for Kyoto-style miso ramen and then visited Yasaka Shrine under glowing lanterns. We walked down Nene’s Path in Higashiyama (my favorite district so far!) to Kōdai-ji Zen Temple. The nighttime views of Hōkan-ji (Yasaka Pagoda) were unreal. We finished the night at Yasui Kompiragū Shrine before heading back to our meeting point. The culture, food and history left us with the most unforgettable memories. Richard's tour is fantastic and we recommend it to all!

Fascinating tour with knowledgeable guide! - This was a fantastic tour with Richard, who is American and Japanese, understands both cultures and explained everything fully in a way we could all clearly understand. We first learned about Geishas and even saw three heading out to their appointments. Then we explored the streets of Gion, stopping at some iconic spots and visiting some shrines and temples. Since this was an evening tour the streets were deserted and lantern lit- very atmospheric. Richard's explanation of Shinto was very interesting. He also told us the story of Nene and Toyotomi Hideyoshi; very cool story. We stopped for a treat of matcha ice cream with beans and jellies at a nice cafe, which was really unique (for us) and special. 100% recommend this excellent tour!

Excellent informative tour - Richard was an amazing tour guide. He gave us some insights to the Japanese culture in regard to kimonos and then delved deep into understanding about the geisha culture. I love how he explained it as a storytelling method along with showing us pictures. We were able to catch a glimpse of some geishas coming by in the alleyways. He took us to try delicious snacks of Kyoto and that was a treat. He also recommended things to do and restaurant picks as well. I highly recommend the tour.

Gion night tour delight - Richard was an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable, informative and warm. His suggested viewpoints for the various sites were like an Easter egg treats. Definitely glad I chose the night tour with Richard as the tour guide.

Absolute must for any Kyoto visitor - If you are in Kyoto, do not miss this tour. We all learned a lot from Richard not only about the history of Gion district but also about Japanese history and culture. Richard is very knowledgeable, fun, and engaging with the whole family. Even my two sons, who usually are reluctant to tag along with us on any tour, were completely blown away. We appreciate the additional tips about local restaurant and souvenirs ideas

Terrific tour, great guide! - This is the second time I’ve done this tour with Richard - I brought my family back because I enjoyed the first tour so much. Richard was friendly and super knowledgeable. We loved that the tour is at night and places are not crowded. The tour is so interesting and incorporates many different things.
