Great tour with Yuka! - Yuka was a fantastic tour guide! Before our tour, she was very helpful and communicative in helping us craft a customized itinerary. And on the tour, she was knowledgeable about everywhere we visited, provided additional insights about local culture in Kyoto and Osaka, and was very sweet and kind!

Highly recommend! Great introduction to Kyoto! - Maya is a fantastic guide! Such a friendly and knowledgeable person, it was invaluable to have all her insights along the tour, really brought Kyoto to life for us! She also found the best photo spots for us and places to visit. During our visit she answered all of our other questions about Kyoto, too and made excellent recommendations for further exploration of the city and places to eat and shop, too. Simply wonderful!! Can’t express enough how fantastic this tour was!!

I also really appreciated Akira's great communication in advance of our tour, confirming an itinerary tailored to our interests, pickup point, etc. A+ experience with this guide!

Kyoto walking tour - meh! - The guide was so dedicated to this tour commitment and also lovely, but his knowledge of history did not impress us. It may have had to do with the language barrier. It was a private tour for 2; a friend was allowed to join.

Disappointed - I requested an English speaking guide, but my guide had extremely limited English so it was difficult to communicate. I also specifically requested to learn the history of the temples and areas, but I was shown Gion Starbucks, the Ghibli Store and other tourist magnets. This was not the informative tour I expected. My guide also didn't have anything to say at all about one of the temples I wanted to see. I had to point and ask, and then he asked an employee to explain to him so he could explain to me. He didn't seem knowledgeable about Kyoto beyond very superficial information. He seemed to do his best to be a good guide, but this was clearly a poor match by JGA and I will be asking for a refund.

Extremely Rigid Policies and Poor Customer Support – Be Aware - I strongly encourage international travelers to read this before booking. I made this reservation in good faith for my first trip to Japan. While the tour was labeled as non-refundable, it was not clearly communicated that it was also completely non-changeable under any circumstances. If this had been clearly stated, I would not have booked. Due to an unexpected work-related schedule change, I requested to move the booking by only a few days. I gave them three other days that I could change the reservation to. I contacted the company well in advance, 2 months in advance and 2 weeks after I made the booking, and made multiple efforts to find a reasonable solution. Instead of working with me, they showed zero flexibility and refused to offer any alternatives. I asked to speak with a supervisor and requested a phone number so I could discuss the situation directly. This was not provided. The entire process was extremely stressful and required many hours of my time trying to resolve what should have been a simple request. I fully understand that businesses have policies, especially during peak seasons. However, the lack of transparency, customer care, and willingness to communicate left a very negative impression. For a company serving international clients, this level of rigidity and poor communication is disappointing. I hope management reviews this situation and improves their customer service and clarity for future travelers. This experience has been frustrating and discouraging. If your travel plans may change for any reason, I recommend booking with a company that values flexibility and customer support.
