Fun food tour! - Our tour guide Yoshiko was absolutely amazing! My wife and I did this tour during our honeymoon, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our entire trip. From the moment we met our guide, they made us feel so welcome and comfortable, sharing not just information about the area, but also fun local stories and hidden gems that we never would have discovered on our own. The food throughout the tour was incredible — we tried so many delicious dishes, from mouthwatering sweets and desserts to savory bites like perfectly grilled chicken, rich and tender Wagyu beef, and all sorts of matcha treats that Kyoto is famous for. Every stop felt carefully chosen, offering something unique and authentic, and our guide’s enthusiasm made the experience even more enjoyable. We also learned a lot about the culture and traditions behind each food, which gave every bite more meaning. The pacing of the tour was perfect — not rushed, but full of flavor and discovery. By the end, we felt like we had truly experienced the heart of the city through its food. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting — especially couples looking for a memorable experience together.

Insider spots with a great guide - Many different opportunities to try little bites while learning the insider spots. It's fun and easy to walk the market alone, but much better with Raqel's insight. One of the highlights was the place that has the pure maccha ice cream, which was way more rich and creamy than the typical also-tasty soft serve. Another was a honey-based vendor that I would have walked right by without Raqel. She was a terrific guide. At the end, she even walked us to the meeting point of our next tour!

Take a bite! - Take a sip of sake, taste their beer, enjoy their tasty seafood and finish with a wide offer of sweets. Some people consider it a Tourist trap, but if its your first time here you can take a close look to a wide variety of their culinary offer. Visit the site and decide for yourself, I enjoyed being trapped here.

Great Nishiki Market tour with Thomas - Departing Tokyo, the next stop for our family in Japan was Kyoto. Our guide Thomas got us off to a fantastic start there with our late morning experience in the “kitchen of Kyoto,” Nishiki Market. He expertly navigated us through a crowded market to sample one delicious item after another, all the while providing great context and background for what we were seeing and trying. He delighted not only us parents but also our two boys and kept them engaged throughout the tour. Some of the highest praise we can give is that we were all so absorbed and enjoying the tour that three hours flew by before we knew it! A third great experience with Arigato on our Japan trip. Thanks Thomas for getting our Kyoto adventure off to such a great start!

Thank you Mickey! - Our guide Mickey was super friendly, and did such a good job finding good vegetarian options for us to enjoy during the tour. She was also very considerate of me being pregnant. We were very surprised and impressed to learn that she has lived 3 years in Oslo and still speaks some Norwegian. The group was quite small, which made it easy to be social with everyone, and we really enjoyed exploring the nishiki market together. Thank you for a great tour!

Sae was amazing! - Our guide Sae was amazing! We had a great experience trying all sorts of different and interesting foods, and along the way Sae throughly and engagingly explained everything about the market and the food we were sampling. She was so happy to share her extensive knowledge and was very patient with our (very) tired children. We would highly recommend Sae to anyone visiting Kyoto!

Most-do nourishment experience - My family and I had an amazing flavours experience at Kyoto Nishiki Food Market this week. Sae, our tour guide, was very professional, curteous, patient and very knowledgeable. As a local, she had many insights and made recommendations based on our interests. She introduced us to various traditional foods, savory or sweets, spices and ingredients, that otherwise would not have appealed to our pallate. It was an enlightening nourishment experience! Thank you, Sae!

Mickey is the best! - Mickey (Miyuki) was so much fun and so very helpful! She has such energy and enthusiasm, and knows so much about Japan! The hours flew by as we are our way through Nishiki, and Mickey found so many interesting things for us. I’m a seasoned traveler and have been to plenty of markets like this, but having her as a guide amped up the fun 10000%! She was able to get us samples of so many interesting things, and it was like hanging out with an old friend as we chatted at lunch. Book with Mickey! She was THE best tour guide we’ve ever had!

A great way to take things in - Sets the surrounding stage well culturally and historically. We were able to eat food that varied a lot from one another. Having guidance was great. As far as orienting ourselves with culture in Kyoto this was a great way to start. Timing was perfect-the market gets much more crowded late on in the day. Our guides were great.
