You Get a LOT More Than Just Food On This Tour - If you're a curious person, if you're a learner, if you like to know the hows and whys behind something, then THIS is the food tour for you. Sure, you can follow someone around La Crucecita and fill up on tacos, but the Huatulco Walking Food Tour is SO much richer than that. Our guide, Jane is a Canadian transplant who has lived and worked in the area for almost 30 years! She owns a restaurant and a cooking school here, so she knows the food scene like a local expert. With her background in cultural studies and post-colonial history, she filled the tour with the richness of this perspective; where the foods come from, why they are cooked that way, how the ingredients interact, and what their significance is to Huatulco culture and history. This makes for a MUCH more interesting tour than simply grazing taco stands. She speaks perfect English and Spanish and seems to know everyone in the town. She finds all the non-touristy eateries and is welcomed as a friend at each of them. The food was delicious also as we sampled seven items from a special grilled chicken (pollo al horno), real local tacos, had a molé made right in front of us, and Tlayudas before cooling off with paletas at the end of the three hour tour with Jane. I've taken dozens of tours all over South America, Central America and Mexico, but the time with Jane is a food history tour, that fills the mind as well as the stomach.

Lots of Authentic Food in Huatulco - Ben was an outstanding guide! Very knowledgeable about Huatulco’s past and present. Ben shared his personal thoughts on the food we sampled. And we sampled a lot - seed/nut candy, dried tiny fish, pastries, tamales, chocolate, mezcal, local “fruit” and chocolate drinks, ice cream and as many different street tacos as we could swallow! And everything was delicious!

Wonderful way to explore and taste delicious foods! - This was a great way to explore La Crucecita and taste authentic foods in the area! Jane offered the group a bit of history and explanation as we progressed through the tour. We did the Saturday evening option and enjoyed this as a fun and expansive dinner - you won’t end hungry! The freshly made potato chips were delicious as well as tacos el pastor (really, everything we tried was so good!). We also enjoyed the opportunity to purchase a drink from the bar (we got margaritas, on our own dime) at one of the restaurants to go with the mole tasting. Ending with ice cream was a perfect sweet treat. Overall this was an excellent experience and perfect way to navigate the area with a guide before we returned a few days later and walked many of the same blocks again more confidently to shop and have lunch. We’d love to do this again on a future trip to Huatulco!

Tamales, mezcal, and history 🇲🇽 - Spent a fantastic morning on the tour with Ben as an A+ guide 🙌🏼 He gave us info on not only food culture but history of the area as well. On a morning where the temperature easily reached over 30 degrees (and the day I happened to be unbelievably sunburnt) I greatly appreciated that every time we stopped he made sure we were in the shade. The food was amazing - We sampled fresh pastries, many kinds of tamales, iced mexican chocolate, unlimited tacos at los parados, Oaxaca cheese, gelato, finished off with a mezcal tasting and of course had to try the grasshoppers 🙃 Would recommend the tour to anyone visiting Huatulco!
