Volcano hike with knowledgeable guides for a great day - We had a great time on this tour! The hike up the side of the volcano was quite good. We did not see much in the way of birds or animals during the hike, but our guides were certainly helpful and looking for interesting things. They carried scopes so we could see a couple of well hidden birds which we certainly would have missed had our guides not spotted them.
The hike itself was good. I wouldn’t call it strenuous, but you definitely got a bit of a workout. We were shaded most of the time so it was comfortable. The view from the top was worth the effort.
Lunch was fabulous, with food selections for everyone— including a vegetarian option. Then we were off to the river, which is fed by hot springs. A very nice way to relax those leg muscles!!
Like clockwork, we were delivered back to our pickup point within the expected timeframe.
A few things we didn’t know: You should bring your own water and refillable bottle.
The hike does have a decent elevation change (we knew that!), with some “steps”. Good traction on your shoes is a definite plus.
A pair of water shoes for the river are a good idea— you’ll walk across the rocky river bed to get to a nice spot in which to recline. Some type of foot wear is helpful.
There’s no place to change out of your bathing suit before heading back into town.
We were not staying in La Fortuna— so had a tough time picking out a pickup point. We randomly selected a hotel from a list after sending a couple of inquiries about pickup using What’s App that did not get a response. It all worked out in the end, but we were a bit concerned since we had to arrange a boat ride and a car service to get to our pick up location.
In the end, it was a fun filled day with great guides who made sure we had a great experience.

Highly recommended activity - We enjoyed a beautiful day walking through Tenorio Volcano National Park, observing its flora and fauna and especially the Celeste River and the views of Tenorio Volcano. After lunch we bathed in the Celeste River, seeing a family of howler monkeys. Fundamental to the enjoyment were the explanations of guides Aitor Gonzalo and Alex, as well as the accounts of driver Fran and the company of the three. Thank you. Lola and Marcelo

A great day out - loved it! - Norlan was a fantastic and funny guide. He was very attentive, and caring of all of us. The lunch was excellent and I loved the picnic idea. The hot river was good but bring sandals to make it easier. A great day out. Thank you Norlan.

Very, very cool - Great visit in the rainforest with our guide Norlan; very friendly and humorous; which made the visit pleasant. He shared his knowledge of flora, it was super interesting. And to finish the day with the river would have been no better!

Best tour in fortuna!!! - This is my 5th time in costa rica, and I have experienced many different tours in different parts of the country. This by far was the best tour I ever experienced. Our tour guide Sergio was exceptional.. his expertise was better than most tour guides I've seen.. his knowledge was unmatched and he even carried a little crying girl down the entire mountain because the girls mother had another child that need to be carried down.. without Sergio, the tour wouldnt of been the same... with him, he will show and tell you about the rain forest and history of the jungle... I recommend you do this tour, but I highly recommend you ask for Sergio for your tour guide.. Im 39 yrs old and traveled the world for many years and I dont usually write kind reviews.... so take this as extrmely happy customer...

Challenging hike, relaxing hot spring dip and knowledge tour guide - We chose to do the mountain hike and hot Springs tour. It lasted from 10am to 4pm. We would have preferred to be picked up by the company, but our hotel was outside of their zone so we had to meet up at their downtown location. It is important to keep in mind that their business location is different from the pick up spot so make sure you know exactly where you are going if you are not being picked up!
This tour was basically a continuation of a morning waterfall tour that started at 8 AM. The whole tour group was probably 30 people but they broke us up into 2 groups for purposes of the hike. We went with Mauricio who was an extremely engaging and knowledgeable guide in his mid 50s. He taught us about the trees, leaves, insects, birds, and everything else that we saw along the way. He was a fabulous leader and teacher.
The hike, to be clear, is going to be quite difficult for people who do not typically hike. For regular, consistent hikers, or people who regularly do cardio,, this will likely be an easy climb, but it is quite steep at places, and the climb left us breathless at certain spots. Bring plenty of water because you will want to rehydrate on the few stops the guides make. Our group consisted of healthy adults, some college kids, and some teenagers so we were able to hike at a very fast pace, but if you are in a group with older people or people who are less physically fit, the hike will definitely take longer so be prepared. Having said all that, the view of volcano is beyond belief. We had a completely clear and unobstructed view - it was pretty magical. The walk back down and the tico lunch were very nice and the hot springs dip was also pleasurable after the long hike.
We didn’t have any rain during our hike so we lucked out, but if it was raining, I can see the walk being even more hard and unpleasant. Overall, it was a great excursion, good exercise and we were more than tired by the time it was over!

We had a lovely hike and... - We had a lovely hike and learned a lot about the nature even though visibility was limited and we didnt see any bigger animals due to the rain. Hats off for our guides Daniel and Gonzalo for being so knowledgeable. The dip to the hot spring river afterwards was a really nice ending. Overall enjoyable, not too rushed and also not very challenging if you have hiked before.

Good time at the volcano and hot springs - The tour was well organized and fun. The guide, Norland, was very knowledgeable about the rainforest and pointed out wildlife that we would not have seen had we done the hike alone. I only would have wanted more time at the hot springs.

Hike & WaterFall - The hike was fine Luckily we had clear weather. Wouldn’t want to hike in the rain or after a wet spell. Had a choice of two hikes up. View at the end of the hike to see the volcano. If you don’t want to hike we saw ATV’s. The hot (warm) hot springs are public and just a hop over the guardrail. Quite a party going on but you can find room.
