Jacamar Naturalist Tours - Glossophagian, or nectar-eating bats, utilize their echolocation abilities to locate nectar-rich flowers even in complete darkness. Certain flowers bloom exclusively at night, with these bats serving as their primary pollinators. This symbiotic relationship between reproduction and nourishment is part of the enchanting experience available on a night tour. Similar to the bats, much of the rainforest’s biodiversity is active at night. Their unique adaptations enable them to thrive in darkness, providing them with advantages in food acquisition and protection from predators reliant on light.
Frogs with captivating sounds and colors, sloths, insects, and even snakes can be appreciated at this delightful rainforest nocturnal gathering.

Great guide, great tour, even in bad weather - Our guide was great. Even though the weather was kind of gross and rainy, the guide kept us interested. He was incredible at finding the tiniest frogs and lizards. We didn't get the best experience bc of the unseasonably bad weather but it is a safe trail to walk at night, the guide is extremely professional and knowledgable (as was every Jacamar tour guide was on my 4 very different excursions with them) and made the best of it. He told us about the plants ("shampoo" plants, worms markings on leaves) and other interesting things about the terrain and wildlife in Costa Rica, in general, bc there weren't too many animals out. I would say this is more of an adult tour than for kids.
My son turned 12 on the day we went. We thought it would be a great birthday gift to show him sloths and reptiles (his favorite)- it didn't work out quite as planned but my husband and I enjoyed it a lot! What really saved the day is that my son found a star fruit on the ground and asked if he could eat it. The guide said save it until the end. When we were done, he left for a second and came back with the fruit cut up in many pieces for us and the other couple on our tour to share. Such a thoughtful gesture that literally left us with a good taste in our mouths :) Our guide has so much pride in his country and his job and it made the experience pleasurable even though we were cold and wet!

Night Hike - Diego was an amazing tour guide! He guided us safely through the rainforest, stopping to talk about the wildlife we encountered. He found frogs, toads, lizards, and insects. (fortunately no snakes). It took about 2 hours to slowly walk through the forest.
He did an excellent job explaining facts about the animals and the role they play in the ecosystem. I would highly recommend this tour.

Took a night walk on a private property and took a detour to see a sloth. - Ronald was a perfect guide, very knowledgeable, experienced, and enthusiastic. We mentioned that we had not seen a sloth on our trip yet and he knew just the place to go. He made out trip special and unforgettable. He also gave amazing tips for night time photography becuase he shared our passions.

Fantastic tour with a friendly, knowledgeable guide! - I have nothing but positive things to say. We booked this tour while staying at Tabacon Resort in the Arenal area (my husband and I with our two 7-year-old boys). Diego, our guide, and his driver picked us up at the hotel (right on time) and drove us to a private farm property. During the drive, he told us about the species we'd be hoping to see, complete with photos. We arrived and began with a small snack at the farm's outdoor restaurant (fruit and cheese tortillas with sour cream). After that the real fun began; we were provided with flashlights and we followed Diego on foot through the rain forest on a narrow trail. It had just rained (which is good apparently!), so we were lucky and saw 4-5 red-eye tree frogs, glass frogs, millipedes, huge spiders, a blue-jeans frog, toads, masked frogs, stream-side frogs, leaf-cutter ants, lizards, and more! Definitely wear long pants and sleeves for the bugs, but we did and it was fine. It was exactly what we hoped for! Thank you Jacamar and Diego!!

10/10 Night Tour - Marco was incredible! He was so knowledgeable about all of the wildlife and helped us get great pictures. Would recommend wearing hiking gear if you have it - or at least longer pants and good boots/sneakers. The path is well-groomed but you'll still brush by lots of foliage and insects on the ground.

Amazing sites on the night hike - Snacks were provided at the beginning. We assumed some chips or something but instead got delicious home made empanadas with Costa Rica’s favorite sauce. The tour was about two hours in the jungle. If you love amphibians and reptiles, this is for you. Marco, our guide, knew exactly where to look and found us many different animals. As the name suggests, you’ll get the opportunity to see animals you normally wouldn’t see on other tours. I always wanted to see wild dart frogs and a red eyed tree frog, we were lucky enough to see both early on in the tour. This was one of my favorite experiences on our trip and certainly unforgettable and unique.
