A Journey Beneath the Waves

As a marine biologist, my life has always revolved around the ocean, but the allure of scuba diving had somehow eluded me until now. The Discover Scuba Diving program in La-ngu promised an introductory dive experience that even non-certified divers could enjoy. With my partner, who was new to diving, we embarked on this adventure, eager to explore the underwater world together.

Our day began with a quick briefing at the dive center, where we met Eric, our friendly and informative guide. His reassuring demeanor set the tone for the day, and his accessibility via WhatsApp and email made planning a breeze. After a light and easy pre-reading session, we were ready to set sail.

The speedboat ride to Ko Tao was exhilarating, the wind in our hair and the anticipation building with every wave. As we approached Mango Bay, the first dive site, I felt a familiar thrill. The bay was a serene introduction to the underwater world, and walking into the sea felt like stepping into another realm.

Discovering the Depths

Our first dive was a gentle immersion into the wonders of the ocean. Ewan, our instructor, was fantastic, providing thorough explanations and hands-on assistance. With prescription goggles available for those who needed them, the experience was tailored to ensure everyone could enjoy the vibrant marine life.

The dive sites were a revelation. Despite being a beginner’s area, Mango Bay was teeming with coral and fish, a kaleidoscope of colors and life. The second dive took us further out to sea, reaching a depth of 12 meters. The sensation of being enveloped by the ocean, surrounded by its inhabitants, was both calming and exhilarating.

The crew’s organization and friendliness made the experience seamless. With 3-4 people per instructor, there was plenty of time to explore, and the dives lasted around 45 minutes each. It was a stark contrast to my previous discover dives in Oman and Egypt, where time underwater was more limited.

Reflections on a Perfect Day

As we surfaced from our final dive, I felt a profound sense of connection to the ocean, a reminder of why I chose this path in life. The Discover Scuba Diving program had not only introduced my partner to the wonders of the sea but had also rekindled my own passion for exploration.

Eric’s thoughtful arrangements, including transfers and accommodating our drop-off location, added a personal touch to the day. The only minor hiccup was a reminder to wash the goggles thoroughly between dives to avoid blurriness, a small price to pay for such an unforgettable experience.
