• Isla de Lobos - This islet spans approximately 6 km² with a coastline of 13.7 km. It is situated 2 km northeast of Fuerteventura and 8 km south of Lanzarote, separated by the Bocaina Strait. The islet is clearly visible from Corralejo, the closest town. The channel dividing Fuerteventura from Lobos, with a depth not exceeding 10 meters, is known as “El Río” or “Paso de la Orchilla”.

The name “Isla de Lobos” originates from the monk seals, also known as Mediterranean friars or sea lions, that once inhabited the island. These animals are now endangered. Fishermen eradicated the species, believing their voracious appetite depleted the area’s marine resources, as each seal requires 30 to 40 kilograms of fish daily. Despite fishermen’s opposition, efforts are underway to reintroduce sea lions.

The small island is entirely protected, forming the Islote de Lobos Natural Park. It is home to over 130 plant species and various bird species, including seagulls, bustards (seasonally), and the cinderella shearwater. The surrounding seabed is an underwater reserve, rich in ecological diversity.

The highest point on the island is La Caldera, also known as El Filo La Herradura, which stands at 127 meters.
