Marvel at sights such as the Baroque-mestizo architecture of San Francisco Church, originally established in 1548; the Metropolitan Cathedral, constructed in 1835; the Spanish colonial buildings along Jaén Street (Calle Jaén); and the Presidential Palace, situated on Plaza Murillo, the city’s main square, which also houses the Bolivian Congress.
- Museum of Musical Instruments - Museo Instrumentos Musicales de Bolivia - La Paz is renowned for its numerous museums, many of which are located on Jaén Street. Notable museums and cultural centers to consider visiting include the National Museum of Art, the Ethnography and Folklore Museum, the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Textile Museum, the Murillo House, the Gold Museum, and the National Museum of Archeology.
- Mercado de Las Brujas - Seize the opportunity to experience local Andean life at one or two vibrant markets, where visitors can browse items like embroidered shawls, alpaca wool, silver artwork, and artisan crafts that make excellent souvenirs and gifts. Two of the most popular markets include the Witches Market, offering herbs and other traditional remedies of the Aymara (the indigenous people of this region), and the Lanza Market, one of the city’s main food markets.
