(Nature / Culture)
Sajama National Park is home to remarkable geological features such as volcanoes, a variety of organisms, and thermal springs. It also boasts cultural treasures including ancient burial structures, cave paintings, and colonial architecture and art. Numerous geysers and hot springs are located about an hour’s walk from the village of Sajama. The flora and fauna here have adapted to high altitudes with reduced oxygen levels, cold nighttime temperatures, frosts extending into spring, minimal shade or protection from the elements, and dry, arid conditions.
The Uyuni Salt Flat, situated nearly 12,000 feet above sea level, captivates with its dazzling appearance and optical illusions created by endless white hexagonal salt tiles. During winter (our summer), it is possible to drive across it. In summer (our winter), the Salar transforms into a vast puddle, with the sky and clouds reflecting as if mirroring the entire world.
