Tiwanaku, a pre-Incan city located in Bolivia, has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Many archaeologists consider Tiwanaku to be a significant precursor to the Incan Empire, and it continues to captivate modern visitors with its beauty. The city’s artistic style is notably distinct, featuring intriguing figurative works with exaggerated heads. This style is linked to the Huari style, also present in the Andean region, and may have evolved from the earlier Pukara style.
At the start of the tour, visitors can explore the Ceramic and Lithic museums before venturing to the ancient and mysterious archaeological sites, including the Gate of the Sun, Kalasasaya Temple, the Semi-Subterranean Temple with its nailed heads, Monoliths, the megalithic and enigmatic ruins of Puma Punku, and other sacred enclosures.
