Good tour company, guide/driver (Yaseen), entertainment, food and camp - We had a good desert tour experience with Ocean Air Travels and the guide/driver for our event, called Yaseen. The communication was good from Ocean Air the day before to confirm the pick up time from our hotel and with safety instructions for the ATV buggies and sandboarding. On the day Yaseen re-confirmed early that morning the 2pm collection time and he was on-time in an Ocean Air branded 4x4 vehicle. After two more pick up points we had six guests in the vehicle and proceeded to the first stop for the ATV buggy driving. Yaseen explained the itinerary and helped make introductions between the guests. He spoke very good English and also translated into Italian (using his phone) to communicate with an Italian couple that had limited English ability to explain the itinerary and at various points during the day. There was plenty of water, juice and tea/coffee on arrival and the toilet block was clean. There were some stalls selling souvenirs and headscarves but there was no obligation to go look. Yaseen helped sort out helmets, with hairnets provided to be more hygenic. The ATVs looked in good condition and after a brief explanation of the controls we were off driving in a fairly large area nearby that was fenced off for the ATV driving. It wasn't going into the dunes as such but there was enough space and hillock/dip features within the quite large area to explore for beginners such as us. We had approx 25-30 minutes of ATV driving and could probably had a bit more (the advert said 35 mins) but we'd had enough by then. The ATV place had an official photographer and there was an upselling attempt to buy the photo of us on the ATVs when we came back in, but it wasn't pressurising and was easy to just say "no thanks" (we didn't want it). Yaseen then deflated the tyres slightly and the dune bashing in the 4x4 vehicle started. The driving was just the right side of exciting, he clearly knew how to drive safely but to make it interesting/exciting for the guests whilst judging the guest tolerance of excitement level, i.e. not to make it too much. I was glad to note that the vehicle had a roll cage just in case, i.e. it was a properly specified vehicle for this type of activity. Yaseen had also explained the various other modifications from a standard vehicle to make it suitable for dune bashing in the desert. He said he had 15 years experience of this which put my mind at ease. After the first segment of dune bashing we tried sandboarding at a point that was being used by several OceanAir vehicles, both on a sit down board and stand up (like snowboarding), which was harder than it looked but good fun to try. After that there was time to take some photos in the same dune area. Yaseen helped take photos of each couple in various still and action poses using our own phones (he wasn't upselling official photos, and thankfully there were no upselling attempts from him all day). He has clearly done this many times and made sure to take quite a few photos. Some more dune bashing followed until we stopped for more some photos as the sun got closer to the horizon. Again Yaseen took time to take photos of each couple (using our own phones) and had good suggestions on how to take nice photos and video segments. We probably had approx 30+ mins of in-vehicle dune bashing (which was plenty for us) and 30-45 mins of photos with some sandboarding. After that the itinerary went awry because the Dubai police had closed the main road to get to the Al Khayma camp and there were major traffic problems. We were supposed to be at the camp by 6:20pm but in the end it was 7:20pm when we arrived. It was no fault of Yaseen, there was nothing he could have done about it. He telephoned the camp though to alert them to the delay - there were several Ocean Air cars caught up in the traffic problems also arriving a bit later than expected. We parked right next to the camp entrance on arrival. The camp was pretty good - nicely laid out with a nice circular central stage area surrounded by a mini-moat and nicely lit. The toilets were clean, there was a very good selection of food and plentiful. Other things to do at the camp included pictures with a falcon (the falconeer used our phones to take photos - he knew much better how to do this), shisha, tea station (poured by someone in traditional costumes with the teapots warmed on coals), henna painting and a couple of after dinner shows (traditional dance and fire baton twirling/fire breathing) and some arabian horses. There were also three telescopes, two focussed on the moon, and one on Jupiter with four moons visible. There were a couple of stalls selling souvenirs but no pressured selling. In fact there was no upselling at all, contrary to what I'd read in reviews about some other companies. There were a couple of young camels that could be fed (with straw) and camel rides near a nearby dune but we didn't try that as it was getting late by the time the after dinner shows finished and we wanted to get back to the hotel - it would have been fine for us to try that before dinner if our arrival at the camp hadn't been delayed by the road closure. Yaseen was asking if we wanted to try the camel riding before we departed, there was no pressure from him to leave. Overall it was a very enjoyable day. I'm glad I chose Ocean Air rather than some others I saw on Tripadvisor, and that we had Yaseen as our guide/driver. Note that I have compiled this review three days after the event took place, not whilst at the venue nor on the same day. Whilst Yaseen asked if we would mind leaving a review there was no pressure to do so on the day nor what to write. From reading other reviews of desert tours in general it's clear, and was clear from our experience, that the guide/driver is very important. Also though, the OceanAir Al Khayma camp set up and experience was pretty good.

A must-do-Dubai experience! - Omg this was so much fun! What an incredible afternoon and evening we spent with our brilliant tour guide Naveed. From the moment we were picked up, to when we were dropped back safely at the hotel, this was a day to remember. Naveed was so informative, friendly and a very skilled driver - I felt in safe hands throughout the dune bashing (which was awesome!!). The day was well planned, I would thoroughly recommend OceanAir Travels as a result . We packed in a lot, but it didn't feel rushed. There was plenty of time to take in all the experiences, as well as photo opportunities and watching the sunset over the desert. The camp was beautiful, had a great range of activities included in the price and the buffet food was delicious. Such a great spread of traditional cuisine! The first performance was excellent, the dancing show not so much, but it really didn't detract from the lasting impression. Incredible value for money when I think about all that we did. I was slightly concerned that we may be 'forced' to buy extras throughout the tour, as this is what I'd read about these trips in general. I'd booked with OceanAir as this didn't seem to appear in their reviews, and they didn't disappoint. Not once did we feel pressured to add on any extras, a very relaxing experience all in all on that front. Overall, an absolutely incredible experience that I will forever remember. A must-do in my opinion, especially to get out of the buzz of Dubai city - a fabulous contrast and just something a bit different and unique. 10/10 - thanks Naveed and OceanAir Travels!

A Great Day in the Dubai Desert - Our tour of the Dubai Desert was a wonderful experience. Our guide, Shihab, picked us up at our hotel and escorted us throughout the day. We went to the quad biking course (an option that we only watched) and then we took off through the desert dunes in a comfortable 4WD with Shihab at the wheel. He took us Sand Boarding and we had a photo session on the dunes while watching the sunset. Then it was off to the desert camp for Camel Rides and a delicious (and huge) dinner. The show during dinner was great and culminated with a fire dance. After a happy day Shihab drove us back to our hotels.

Fun experience! - We really enjoyed our experience. Asif was a great guide and driver. We were picked up and there was a total of 6 in our vehicle. You will be taken to the first stop to ride ATVs. If you do not want to ride be prepared to sit and wait for the rest of the people in your party. There is also drinks and you can wait in a tent, which is what we did and the time passed quickly. Be prepared to be approached to buy items (scarves, food, necklaces). We left that areas and went to the desert which was really fun!!! Took a bunch of pictures and also could sand board. Then off to the camp which was so nice! We enjoyed the food and show.

Best option to kick of dubai trip - Had a great time as we visited on a weekday in Dec. Our tour guide was Osama, who got in touch before the day letting us know of the details. Very friendly guy. We took part in Dune bashing, Quad biking (must to experience), Sandboarding, Camel ride, dressing up in authentic clothes to have a picture taken while holding a Kestrel and BBQ at dinner. There are also other options such as Henna, camel feeding but it was not in our interest. I will recommend to book through Oceana travel, you won't be disappointed. We had another family with us, we enjoy each other's company. Osama made sure that we had a good laugh and beautiful experiences. Please do ask for questions, they are happy to help.

An amazing day at Al Khayma Camp - Loved our day out in the desert while on holiday in Dubai! The highlights were the camel rides and the dune bashing, the buffet was also really tasty and really well organised. The start of our trip wasn’t so great hence only a 4 star review, as we were taken to a Quad Bike facility even though we had no desire to ride the bikes. We were also forced to buy a headscarf at £8 per person, which we then found later that we didn't need as we weren’t participating in the quads. The entertainment was also really poor, just a guy spinning in costume and a lady performing some very amateur belly dancing. We did however really enjoy the day, it’s just a shame we had to waste the first hour of our precious day being pushed to buy merch and quad biking.

Didn't quite live up to expectations - All the travel reports tell you that you can't visit Dubai without doing the trip into the desert. Personally I feel that there are much more interesting things to do in Dubai. The dunes weren't particularly impressive and the Al Khayma Camp was nothing more than the typical tourist attraction which you can find in other destinations. Everything that was advertised in the camp was included (camels, henna tattoo, hawk ...) and the BBQ was varied and plentiful but somehow the excursion didn't live up to expections.

Sites are good but rude tour guide experience - The red dunes safari, 5* bbq are okay. But our tour guide was rude. Firstly, he kept using his phone while driving on the highway. Secondly, he doesn’t reply nicely when we asked questions.

Tour operator excellent. Read above for the price gouging by Viator. Better to book directly with the tour operator. - The tour operator is excellent. But watch out and do not book through Viator. My friends found the exact same trip through another operator for 89 AED... multiple friends and their families. When I asked Viator, they just repeated "it's not the same" - an answer a 7- year- old would give not a professional tour platform.
