- Chilliwack - Approaching the small city of Chilliwack on the highway’s north side, with the smaller community of Sardis on the opposite side. During the gold rush era, 30,000 miners traveled through here en route to the gold fields.
- Abbotsford - As the tour passes the Clearwater Road highway exit, there might be a chance to spot a 47-foot-tall raspberry public art sculpture on the highway’s south side.
- Vedder Canal Bridge - Once, this entire area was a lake. In the 1920s, it was reclaimed to create more farmland. During this process, the Chilliwack and Vedder Rivers were redirected from Sumas Lake to the Sumas River, which flows into the Fraser River.
- Fort Langley - This was the first area in the Lower Mainland settled by Europeans, with the fort constructed in 1827 by the Hudson’s Bay Company. Initially a fur trading post, it later became crucial for supplying other forts, the emerging farming community, and outfitting thousands of gold rush hopefuls.
- Hope - The town of Hope is a wise stop, as there won’t be another town for at least an hour and nothing substantial for at least two hours.
- The Hope Slide - It’s worthwhile to take a moment to view the Hope Slide. It’s important to remain open-minded and remember to appreciate the sights along the journey. Many people rush to their next destination, forgetting that the journey itself is part of the enjoyment.
- Othello Tunnels - A brief visit to the tunnels is highly recommended as a highlight of the entire Highway Five route. Unfortunately, the tunnels area suffered severe damage from the notorious Atmospheric River storm in November 2021.
- Merritt - Comstock Road, along with other forestry roads in the area, forms part of the course for a stage of the annual Canadian Rally Championships.
- Coldwater River Provincial Park - The valley’s base is home to the Coldwater River, named after the Coldwater Indian Band, who inhabited this area before European settlers arrived. Their story mirrors that of many other First Nations groups in Canada.
- Nicola River - Flowing through the town of Merritt, this river is a confluence of the Nicola and Coldwater Rivers. It has a history of causing challenges for the town, though flooding is not the focus here.
- Surrey Lake Summit - The tour reaches a peak at the Surrey Lake Summit, standing at 1,440 meters or 4,737 feet. This is the highest point on the Coquihalla Highway, and while winter can bring harsh conditions, the area is generally pleasant outside of the season.
- Logan Lake - Originally a mining camp, Logan Lake remains centered around mining, hosting North America’s largest open-pit copper mine.
- Kamloops - In just a few minutes, the tour will enter the outskirts of Kamloops, British Columbia. The name Kamloops is derived from a local First Nations word, Kamloops.
