You’ll soon become acquainted with galangal and lemongrass, and learn to recognize the various herbs that are essential to Lao cuisine.
With your ingredients in hand, return to the family home and prepare to cook. Lao cuisine is akin to Thai, but often includes chiles and can be quite spicy.
Depending on the seasonal availability of ingredients, you might prepare laap, a spicy salad made with minced pork or chicken and sticky rice, or the popular green papaya salad with shrimp paste, sugar, and lime juice. Once the meal is ready, sit down to savor your culinary creations, with time for a post-lunch stroll through the village. This 4-hour cooking class excursion concludes with a return transfer to Luang Prabang.
